Job Description The strategic combination of Tenneco's Ride Performance business with Federal-Mogul's Motorparts business will establish a global aftermarket leader with an impressive portfolio of some of the strongest brands in the aftermarket including Monroe®, Walker®, Wagner®, Champion®, Fel-Pro® and MOOG®. The company's broader aftermarket product coverage, stronger distribution channels, and enhanced channel development will strengthen its position in established and high growth markets (China and India), and drive success through new mobility models and capturing evolving e-commerce opportunities.
An ideal candidate for the Buyer will have a bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, or Materials Management and at least 1 year of buyer level work experience performing purchasing and/or procurement related tasks in a manufacturing industry. Key function will be to purchase finished goods, components, and or raw material/chemical needs of the sealing business unit within the Skokie manufacturing plant. Also, this position will identify, maintain, and negotiate commercial agreements with suppliers to ensure high levels of quality, pricing and delivery minimally are maintained for the business.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage purchasing for finished goods/components and or raw material/chemical expenditures. Includes negotiating pricing, terms, delivery, and quality.
Manage the RFQ/RFI process for assigned commodities and vendors including RFQ development, follow-up, analyses and recommendation
Maintain required KPIs (material cost reduction, payment terms, contracts/T&Cs, supplier rationalization, Localization, etc) and manage vendors and vendor relationships to ensure on-time delivery, fill rate, and quality expectations
Coordinate sourcing and vendor management needs with all sealing purchasing counterparts, cross-functional team members and or plant personnel for finished goods, components, raw material/chemical product and or vendor services
Lead problem-solving and performance improvement efforts with vendors in areas of delivery, quality, and cost; manage supplier issues to resolution
Prepare required data and or documents for supplier meetings or negotiations.
Identify best in class sources, process and solutions
Prepare financial analysis of RFQ results and communicate optimal option to stake holders.
Attend and participate in multiple cross-functional meetings as required to provide purchasing updates
Interface between suppliers and engineering/operations/marketing to answer any questions related to RFQ.
Conduct quarterly/monthly business reviews with vendors to address open issues, service charges, and opportunities
Evaluate and monitor contract performance to ensure compliance with contractual obligations
Required Experience Education: Bachelor's Degree in Business, Materials Management or Supply Chain required
Skills and Experience:
Minimum of 1 year experience in Purchasing / Effective Negotiation / Planning processes and Systems.
Experienced in development of source selection criteria, source selection and negotiation with purchasing commodities such as molded rubber, hardware bolts & fasteners, assemblies, raw materials such as steel and chemicals, preferably within the automotive industry.
Must have experience in supplier management and negotiation with domestic and foreign suppliers, including suppliers in the Asia Pacific region
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, SOW, drawings, KPIs; ability to write routine reports and business correspondence.
Analytical abilities necessary to plan and prioritize own work, complete work on schedule and maintain required records and logs
Flexibility to handle changing situations and assignments
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to present information, respond to questions and exchange information with internal team members of varying levels and suppliers
Knowledge and understanding of applicable regulatory requirements, such as OSHA standards, TS16949 and ISO 14001 policies and procedures
Approximately 10% travel locally and regionally (North America) may be required annually pending business needs
