GENERAL SUMMARY



Reporting to the Senior Vice President/Chief Development Officer, the Vice President for Development serves as the chief operating officer for the Brigham Development Office (BDO). The Vice President is a highly visible, hands-on partner with the Senior Vice President and development leadership, the President, the Board of Trustees, benefactors and volunteers, key physicians and scientists, and administrative colleagues. The Vice President is responsible for leading the BDO's comprehensive development program ensuring the successful functioning and daily operation of the Development Office.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


* Leads the Executive leadership team, and, in concert with the Senior Vice President/Chief Development Officer, ensures the effectiveness of fundraising and development support programs.
* Oversees strategic planning, goal setting, management and performance management of comprehensive development program including Fundraising and Non-fundraising Units within the Brigham Development Office. Provides active management and leadership to direct reports, including developing annual operating plans and tailored organizational achievement metrics for their teams; evaluates these metrics to regularly review performance to help improve fundraising and programmatic outcomes.
* Works with prospective donors to develop and enhance the relationship to and connection with the hospital, ultimately leveraging that relationship to maximize philanthropic giving. Works with the CDO/SVP in securing transformational gifts to support hospital priorities.
* In concert with the Senior Vice President/Chief Development Officer, leads all aspects of the planning and implementation of the next Campaign that will include expansion of the Hospital's fundraising base and engagement of a new class of donors of transformational gifts. With the CDO/SVP, assist in guiding and supporting the President as key fundraiser, serving as co-strategist and mentor.
* Serves as an ambassador of the Brigham Development Office, empowered to represent development at all levels within the hospital. Builds strong and beneficial relationships with donors, business, and community leaders, as well as among physicians, scientists, and academic leadership.
* Leads and implements all office-wide and hospital policies with respect to gift accounting and acceptance, expenses approval, performance reviews, performance management, prospect management, and other areas.
* Leads and engages in healthy and productive debate on office issues, works toward consensus, and carries out assigned action items or follow-up tasks.
* Member of the Executive Leadership Team.



Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:



The Vice President of Development will be a committed professional with an outstanding track record in principal and major gift fundraising, in staff leadership and management and with experience in a comprehensive Campaign.
Bachelor's degree required, with an advanced degree preferred. Minimum of fifteen years of fundraising or development operations and management experience. Well-developed understanding of fundraising practices and strategies, particularly within a hospital, non-profit, or university setting. Proven management skills in establishing team and goal-oriented environment that empowers staff through active communication and delegation and that builds confidence, promotes diversity of thought, and celebrates achievements. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Previous campaign, strategic planning, and budget management experience and a history of revenue achievement essential. A passionate, perceptive, energetic leader, who can affect change in a dynamic and sophisticated environment.
