General Statement:

The Communications Specialist supports the Fleets mission, vision and visitor experience philosophy through the Brand Experience communications efforts. The Communications Specialist is the organizations media cheerleader, an imaginative content creator and a strong collaborator that has experience with a wide range of communications functions, including public relations, copywriting, event planning and social media management.

Reports to: Marketing and Communications Manager

Primary Duties and Responsibilities, including mental requirements of position:

  1. Oversees and maintains the organization's digital communications channels, including social media content.

  2. Assists the Marketing and Communications Manager with the production of the organizations public relations work, including press releases, media alerts, media events and other work as needed.

  3. Collaborates with others in the organization to achieve brand consistency, coordination of messages and the highest standards for external communications.

  4. Supports marketing and communications functions of the Brand Experience department, including editing and copywriting, website content, content creation and other duties as assigned.

Experience, education, or skills required of the incumbent in this position:

  • Bachelors degree in communication, public relations, marketing, journalism, media studies or equivalent experience in a related field required.

  • Minimum of three years of related professional work experience.

  • A power-user of all major social media sites such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn at minimum.

  • Strong writing abilities in journalistic and informational formats and basic knowledge of Associated Press style.

  • Exceptional public speaking abilities.

  • Performs routine duties without direct supervision. Supervision needed for training of new job duties and special projects and to discuss non-routine questions or concerns.
