OVERVIEW:

The Exhibits Project Manager is responsible for managing the installation of temporary exhibitions and other small projects as assigned including coordinating design, production, marketing, communications, educational programs, interpretation and sponsorship for The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, Inc.  The incumbent works closely with internal and external constituents to ensure quality standards are adhered to consistently.  They coordinate the shipping and storage of exhibit inventory. The Manager ensures that internal processes are adhered to and moving efficiently by monitoring and assisting with the transitions between design, development, production, and scheduling for experiences and exhibits.

REPORTS TO:         Senior Exhibits Project Manager

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:


  1. Coordinates and leads teams through the installation of temporary exhibitions, including seasonal exhibitions, rented exhibitions, and peripheral experiences such as Interpretation props and sets, Collections displays, and other experiential displays for Development, Marketing, Retail, and other cross-divisional teams.

  2. Implements exhibition contracts and serves as liaison between museum and lending institution(s).

  3. Manages the exhibit inventory storage and shipping needs, including the tracking and movement of spare furniture, props, and other surplus or reusable items.

  4. Sets exhibition installation time-lines, manages deadlines, and sends out monthly reports. Reports on monthly project budgets. Stays on time and on-budget for projects. Works closely with development and finance teams for transparent budget tracking.

  5. Works with colleagues in exhibit development, design, Interactive Media, and Experience Production to produce gallery augmentation including label copy, interactives, facade treatments, program signage, and any other environmental elements.

  6. Works in concert with colleagues across the division to assure appropriate content, augmentation, and educational programs and events are produced that are inclusive and accessible.

  7. Partners with development and fund raising efforts to provide information on exhibit plans and projects to potential funders. Assists with fulfillment of funder benefits, recognition, and reporting.

  8. Works with coworkers across the organization to ensure that special requirements and approval processes are followed. Ensures that related intellectual property licenses are observed through partnerships associated with temporary exhibits.

  9. Works with marketing strategy and design to make certain that exhibitions are accurately promoted with cohesive messages and graphics.

REQUIREMENTS:


  1. A bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in education, communication, business administration or museum studies.

  2. Three years (3) operational experience in museum exhibitions; one (1) year project oversight and/or project management.

  3. Excellent managerial skills to coordinate meetings, administer budgets and plan for future exhibitions and projects.

  4. Excellent problem solving skills and flexibility to deal with constantly changing situations that arise with project management.

  5. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to negotiate with museum staff, work effectively with teams and disseminate information.

  6. Proven experience with adeptly moving project(s) from conception to completion, on-time and on-budget.

  7. The demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a diverse work environment. Must be able to impart diplomacy and professionalism in all situations.

ADA REQUIREMENTS:


  1. Must be able to read floor plans, review exhibit conceptual documents, and view exhibit design plans. 

  2. Must be able to verbally lead team meetings and hear responses from team members.  Must take oral feedback and incorporate into plans.  Must be able to gather visitor and focus group feedback.

  3. Must have dexterity to utilize a keyboard to draft and review documents and manipulate exhibit elements.  Must be able to navigate conventional local, regional, national and international ground and air travel. Requires ability to stand for long periods of time while traversing and viewing exhibitions and sites. 

  4. Must be able to lift up to 35lbs, kneel, sit, or stand and tolerate dust in the environment.
