Full-time Position: Senior Assessment Specialist Office: Institutional Research & Effectiveness Job description: Stevens Institute of Technology invites applications for a Senior Assessment Specialist position in the Office of Institutional Research and Effectiveness (IR&E). Reporting to the Executive Director of Institutional Research and Effectiveness, the Senior Assessment Specialist has primary responsibility for coordinating the institutional efforts to assess student learning outcomes and institutional effectiveness. As the primary point of contact for IR&E in campus-wide assessment activities, this position works collaboratively with faculty, school deans, senior administrators, the Provost’s Office, and other campus constituencies to build a rigorous and transparent assessment process and produce essential information needed for accreditation and strategic planning. This is a very rewarding and interesting role for someone who has a passion for assessment, thrives in analyzing and reporting data, has some understanding of accreditation requirements, and enjoys collaborating with others to decide how to best achieve continuous and sustainable improvement. Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with faculty and academic administrators and assist in the development of assessment initiatives and implement comprehensive approaches to assess educational units and student learning outcomes of academic programs.
  • Manage Stevens’ course evaluation process in AEFIS, gather data and generate reports as needed to support the assessment of student learning outcomes.
  • Coordinate the phased implementation of other solutions in AEFIS for accreditation reporting and strategic planning.
  • Collaborate with academic units to identify assessment needs, develop data collection strategies, and report assessment results to support curricular and institutional improvement while fulfilling reporting requirements.
  • Support general institutional assessment activities including assessment of the Stevens’ new strategic plan, conducting surveys, and running focus groups.
  • Assist with the institutional re-accreditation efforts, and fully understand the standards and requirements of regional and professional accreditations (Middle States, ABET, AACSB, etc.).
  • Serve as a critical member on the Stevens Middle States accreditation steering committee.
  • Serve as the primary contact for IR&E to interpret qualitative and quantitative data within the framework of accreditation and assessment, develop assessment reports, and recommend process improvements to support the culture of assessment.

  • Promote internal and external communication of assessment results including reports needed for accreditation. Analyze and prepare summary reports on institutional surveys of student learning and satisfaction measures such as National Study of Student Engagement, Noel-Levitz Student Satisfaction Inventory, Princeton Review Student Survey and others.

  • Provide training and consultation to faculty and staff in the design, implementation and documentation of effective assessment strategies and activities.

  • Maintain the documentation and recordkeeping of all assessment materials and reports. Develop and manage the assessment content on the IR&E office webpage.
  • Support the Stevens ongoing efforts related to data warehousing and reporting, with a focus on the institution's ability to provide data and information relevant to assessment, evaluation, and institutional effectiveness efforts.
  • Represent Stevens at professional meetings and other professional groups related to assessment.
  • Perform other duties and manage other special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Master's degree in educational assessment, research and measurement, social sciences, or other related disciplines. Alternatively, a bachelor's degree in a related field with two years of experience directly related to educational research and assessment.
  • Demonstrated experience with quantitative and qualitative methods and practices in higher education.
  • Prior experience conducting survey research and report writing.
  • Highly developed technical skills, including experience with survey systems, statistical methodology, and data visualization tools.
  • Ability to collect, analyze and present data in a cohesive manner.
  • Knowledge of the Middle States accreditation requirements preferred.
  • Knowledge of AEFIS and Canvas learning management system preferred.
  • Excellent writing, oral and presentation communication skills.
  • Ability to complete projects on time and manage multiple tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, and to respond effectively to pressure and stress.
  • In addition, the successful candidate must have a passion for excellent customer service, be flexible in nature, and have sound judgment with an open and collaborative style that encourages teamwork and cooperation with culturally diverse populations.

Compensation: Grade 8
