The Need 

After 25 years of continued growth and operational success in pioneering the work of protecting those who are experiencing poverty from violence, IJM has become a $100+ million organization. As IJM continues this trajectory of growth and scaling of its impact, with the Vision to protect 500 million people by the year 2030, IJM’s Vice President, Enterprise Governance is seeking a Compliance Officer, Enterprise Governance. 

 

As IJM looks to grow into the 2030 Vision, the systematic and comprehensive development of required global standards, policies, and processes and a holistic compliance framework will be critical. Therefore, IJM is looking for a skilled Global Officer, Compliance to lead the organization in building out a comprehensive and excellent compliance function. 

Overview: The Global Officer, Compliance reports to the Vice President, Enterprise Governance and provides leadership on the development and implementation of a comprehensive compliance framework to ensure the consistent and reliable compliance and accountability of IJM’s Global Policies, Standards and Procedures. 

 

This position is based at IJM Headquarters in the Washington, DC area and reports to the Vice President, Enterprise Governance. 

Responsibilities:

Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive compliance framework and compliance systems and processes: This position will assess IJM’s compliance needs and develop, build, and implement an enterprise-wide compliance framework as well as build the infrastructure required for a comprehensive compliance program.

Develop an internal control system and implement standardized compliance management processes utilizing the Green Book’s components of internal control (control environment, risk assessment, control activities, information and communication, and monitoring activities): This position will develop, oversee, and coordinate with each Global Function and Region on the implementation of effective, standardized processes for compliance management to ensure employees and activities across the organization are in line with laws, regulations, and requirements. Examples of standardized systems and processes include but are not limited to:


  • Build and manage a standardized process and plan for IJM’s separate legal entities to formally adopt IJM’s Global Policies and Standards.


  • Develop a structured process for documenting the control assessment.


  • Develop and implement a unified approach to utilizing corrective action plans.


  • Develop a plan to test the effectiveness of the design of the controls.


  • Develop and oversee a standard rhythm for regular review and updating of IJM’s Global Policies and Standards.


Build a centralized compliance dashboard: This position will lead the development of a coordinated reporting framework and ensure the visibility and accuracy of key compliance metrics for the purpose of insight and continuous monitoring.

Lead the coordination of a unified approach to the three lines of defenses, including an internal audit: This position will leverage the existing global assurance function to ensure an expanded and comprehensive internal audit function. This position will also coordinate and manage third-party audits, as necessary.

Develop and implement a global training calendar: This position will oversee the development, communication, launch, maintenance, reporting, and certification/recertification of training on the latest standards, policies, and processes, including continuous maintenance of a global training calendar and a central communication channel for announcing new and updated policies and standards.

Convene and support key stakeholders in functional areas across IJM in implementing the compliance program: This position will liaise and provide support to Global Functions and Regions implementing the compliance framework. This position will also support the coordination of, and when appropriate, initiate investigations, as needed.

Requirements:


  • Masters degree in law, finance, business management, or a related field, or equivalent work experience; 


  • 7-8 years’ proven experience in a compliance role; 


  • Experience engaging executive-level stakeholders;


  • Experience working cross-culturally preferred;


  • Highly analytical with strong attention to detail;


  • Experience in risk management;


  • Excellent organizational skills;


  • Effective problem-solving;


  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills;


  • High integrity; and


  • Collaborative and able to build trust quickly.
