Hearst Autos seeks a Finance Director who will operate as the division’s primary financial leader. The function of the position is to ensure that the financial objectives of the Hearst Autos division are maximized. Working with key stakeholders, the Finance Director will assist in preparing and reviewing all financial data related to the performance of the Hearst Autos division as well as communicating the implications of the financial decisions made by stakeholders. The Finance Director is responsible to ensure that the financial strategies of all disciplines, including but not limited to three media brands; an ad network; an on-line auction site, etc are working on their own and in tandem.
Key to the position is a Finance Director who will demonstrate long-term strategic thinking and strong relationship management skills. While the position reports directly to the Chief Financial & Strategy Officer there is a dotted line responsibility to Chief Revenue Officer.
General Responsibilities:
Compilation of annual business plan working CFO to make sure corporate financial objectives are met
Monthly revisions of business plan (PM forecasting)
Weekly forecasts to management for editorial and advertising pages. At month end working with both ad and edit to ensure ad/edit ratios are maintained and filler paging is minimized
Monthly financial reviews with stakeholders to review results and determine actions required to maintain objectives
Review MIC costing and prepress reports with managing editor, art department and editor to ensure proper cost management
Work with the sales management on determining sales commissions for ad sellers and the biannual payment to the ad sellers
Ensure that all corporate financial and operating procedures are followed
Ad pricing on all specialty units
Approve the operational expenses for all disciplines of the Hearst Autos division
Administration of all Human Resource policies and procedures
Work with General Offices Services to insure a safe and comfortable work environment.
Review and approve T&E reports across the division
Qualifications
A complete understanding of media economics including but not limited to all key leverage points of circulation, rate base management, ad rate realization, digital, and ad network.
Must have demonstrated record of cost control management and long-term strategic financial planning
A thorough knowledge of accounting and how it impacts the financial statements, including cash flow, profit and loss statements and certain balance sheet accounts.
Superior written and oral communication skills
Ability to collaborate and communicate well with all key stakeholders including:
Financial operations in both Charlotte and New York
Circulation Operations, Human Resources, General Office Services, General Management, IT
Ability to multi-task with extreme attention to detail
Must be resourceful and comfortable working in fast-paced environment
Must be self-motivated and work with minimal supervision
