We are looking for a Laboratory Genetic Counselor, Oncology(FT, 40 hours, Remote) at Bioreference Laboratories

Location: Elmwood Park, NJRemote

Schedule: Monday to Friday from 8:30am-5:00pm

Position Summary

GenPath Oncology provides leading expertise in cancer diagnostics and offers a comprehensive portfolio to provide a single source solution laboratory for cancer patients’ needs. GenPath is backed by a team of specialized pathologists and has experience in providing diagnostic oncology solutions, from routine clinical and special coagulation testing to complex genomic testing for tumor sequencing and hereditary cancer syndromes. GenPath offers oncologists and pathologists a variety of diagnostic solutions including morphological analysis, immunohistochemistry, FISH, flow cytometry, karyotyping, molecular analysis, and next generation sequencing.

Bioreference Laboratories is seeking a full-time genetic counselor to support our GenPath Oncology line of business. An ideal candidate would have strong leadership skills and an interest in establishing an oncology genetics program within this division. Additionally, a passion for educating non-genetics professionals on the importance of genetic testing and genetic counseling to improve patient access is ideal. Expectation that the candidate will be an internal and external expert for GenPath as related to oncology genetics and genetic testing.

Primary Responsibilities

• Answer health care provider and sales team inquiries regarding GenPath and Bioreference products.


• Provide hereditary cancer genetic testing expertise and support to clients/health care providers regarding test selection, test performance, and laboratory processes


• Review incoming specimens to ensure that appropriate testing has been ordered and that essential information about the patient has been provided


• Coordinate hereditary cancer testing for clients including send-out and reporting of results


• Assist in development of patient consents, GC protocols, SOPs, and patient education materials.


• Write or collaborate on abstracts or papers involving GenPath tests.


• Provide active guidance to clients, lab support staff and sales team through ongoing informal education, case conference presentations, and client in-services


• Represent company at trade shows and medical conferences; deliver presentations at scientific meetings and company promotional events (<10% travel).


• Participate in the development of new and review of current test offerings

• Master’s degree in Genetic Counseling or equivalent degree


• Board certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling or the American Board of Medical Genetics


• Three or more years of clinical cancer genetic counseling experience


• Diagnostic laboratory experience preferred


• Licensure in state of residence and New Jersey

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Exceptional communication skills (oral and written) and attention to detail


• Demonstrated ability to work independently AND collaborate with team members


• Adaptable to a dynamic environment and enthusiasm for program creation and experimentation


• Familiarity with Google and Microsoft suite of work products
