Inpatient Medical Director - Full Time, Days

The Medical Director of Inpatient Care provides medical leadership and has responsibility for Health-care-related management of members in the acute and at a lower level of care settings. Responsibilities include but not limited to leading discharge rounds with staff to ensure an efficient and safe discharge from the acute setting as well as mentoring and assisting in training of clinical and non-clinical leaders; participating in various committees to support performance improvement, improve quality of medical care and the physician and patient experience; providing guidance to contracted physicians providing care in these settings; and enhancing physicians relationships to align with organizational goals.

Job Responsibilities/Duties


  • Oversees inpatient services with attention to average daily census and length of stay in contracted and non-contracted hospital facilities, Long-Term Acute Care (LTAC) facilities, Sub-Acute facilities, Skilled Nursing Facilities and Rehabilitation facilities.
  • Oversees patient steerage to contracted facilities.
  • Achieves PMS targeted goals for Utilization measures: average daily census, average length of stay, admissions per thousand, readmissions,
  • Achieves PMS targeted quality metrics for: Beta Blockers after MI, provision of heart failure discharge instructions, post discharge prescription for ACEI-ARB for LV dysfunction and pneumococcal vaccination after the diagnosis or pneumonia.,
  • Monitors the performance of network physicians with regard to the quality, utilization, and cost of care as well as meeting with physicians and especially outlier physicians as necessary to present such data and ensure compliance with goals and targets.
  • Analyzes clinical and financial data to develop and refine management activities, investigate, and define sources of variation, and ensure conformance with standards and criteria.
  • Assists in managing and developing an effective network through mentoring, relationship-building, and educating IPA physicians. This includes managing relationship with hospitals.
  • Works proactively and collaboratively across the organization to ensure overall business objectives are met and supported. Attends various meetings and participates on committees as appropriate contributing ideas for improving efficiency, productivity, and member satisfaction.

Qualifications

Minimum Education: None.

Minimum Experience: A minimum of three (3) years of clinical inpatient care experience required. Experience in medical leadership or oversight responsibilities, preferred.

Req. Certification/Licensure: Unrestricted Licensed Medical Doctor in the State of California required. Board-certification preferred.
