IT Manager - Middleware and Database Administration (Hybrid) at Lands End Inc in Dodgeville, Wisconsin

The Manager of Middleware and Database Administration will work in a complex, fast-paced environment with a focus on ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction with our internal stakeholders.  This position will manage a team of middleware engineers, DBAs, and 3rd party service providers responsible for ongoing middleware, database, and mainframe operations that provides 24/7 support for Lands’ End.  The technologies involved span a wide range of infrastructure platforms, including mainframe, to open systems servers, hyperconverged appliances, and cloud. This position works closely with engineering, security, DevOps, applications and other IT and business teams across the company to deploy, manage and maintain a highly secure environment that spans multiple data centers as well as Amazon AWS cloud.


Responsibilities



  • Leads efforts in executing middleware configuration management, vendor management, problem mitigation, change management, and critical situation management for mission-critical systems.

  • Manages middleware projects and assesses risk, cost, and return on investment scenarios and their impact as well as potential compatibility issues with existing hardware/software.

  • Identifies and defines new middleware technologies to fit specialized business needs and configurations.

  • Provides consultation and technical solutions to management on complex systems integration, complex distributed java applications, compatibility, expandability, ease of use, and multiple platform issues as they relate to middleware.

  • Direct the preparation and execution of Middleware-based operations production procedures.

  • Oversee product licensing and license/maintenance renewals for Oracle, IBM, and multiple other supported applications.

  • Develop and lead efforts to maintain supported applications through monthly patching and planned software/hardware upgrades.

  • Plan, schedule and supervise around the clock technology operations including emergency situations requiring the manager's attention after normal business hours to ensure continual operations.

  • Communicate regularly with senior management to report on operations performance.

  • Maintain open communications with business user management to keep them apprised of operational situations that impact or may impact their respective areas.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders inside and outside Information Systems.

  • Establish and maintain appropriate quality control systems for the validation of data input and output.

  • Responsible for data processing supplies inventory and procurement.

  • Maintain and schedule satisfactory equipment maintenance.

  • Coordinate, schedule and plan the installation of middleware-based technologies and applications.

  • Participate in and support cross technology process improvement initiatives.




Qualifications



  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, and/or equivalent work experience.

  • Ten (10 ) years experience information technology, with progressive leadership experience in middleware development, support, integration and management. Experience in successfully leading / managing large complex projects and teams.

  • Experience navigating and negotiating software contracts and licensing agreements

  • Five (5) years prior management, supervisory or team leader experience.

  • Three (3) years functional experience with the following technologies:




    • Oracle, Microsoft, and/or IBM Databases

    • Managed File Transfer

    • Application middleware – scheduling, messaging, service bus, etc.

    • Datacenter and Cloud integration


  • Experience and/or strong interest in cloud technologies – IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS




Preferred Qualifications



  • Some experience with mainframe platforms and software solutions

  • Experience in Amazon AWS or Microsoft Azure cloud migrations
