After on-site training this position has the potential to work a hybrid schedule (a combination of days working from home and days in the office).

Job Summary:

The Manager, Electrical Engineering will lead the electrical engineering team (3 Electrical Engineers & 1 Electrical Technician) and will also perform a wide variety of electronic and electro-mechanical design, test and troubleshooting of complex chemical detection/identification related products. The position will design new analog and digital circuits, write firmware, build prototypes, and perform design verification tasks as an individual contributor on projects as well as providing leadership to the Electrical Engineering team. This person should be comfortable with wiring, component installation, hand soldering and cable fabrication to support design development, prototyping and testing. The role will work in a multi-disciplinary project team, including engineers from other disciplines and manufacturing personnel. The ideal candidate will demonstrate competency in flexibility, planning and organizing, initiative, and interpersonal skills.

Job Duties:


  • Provide mentorship, coaching, and management for Electrical Engineering team members.

  • Establish and champion Electrical Engineering procedures and best practices.

  • Work with project managers to define schedules and work with manufacturing to define and implement test fixtures/processes and assembly procedures.

  • Derive and document requirements for electronics designs from high-level system specifications and by working directly with internal and external customers.

  • Design analog and digital electronics including but not limited to DAC/ADC circuitry, power management, sensor interface, and microprocessors for system control and communications.

  • Perform schematic and PCB layout design.

  • Build prototypes, perform design verification including the creation of test plans/procedures, test fixtures, test reports and debugging of hardware/firmware issues.

  • Create, review and maintain engineering documentation, including PCB design documentation, wiring diagrams, cable drawings, build and test procedures.

  • Support product development efforts by performing system level trade studies, defining and executing experiments, and investigating new and novel methods and processes.

Job Requirements:


  • Applicants must be either a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, legal permanent resident, asylee, refugee or must be eligible to apply for and obtain the appropriate export control license from the U.S. Departments of State or Commerce.

  • BSEE degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.

  • Experience with CAD tools for schematic capture and PCB design.

  • Experience working with common electronic lab equipment (oscilloscope, etc.).

  • Experience troubleshooting complex design problems.

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.

  • Effective at working in teams.

  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic, high energy environment.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office to include Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Preferred Skills:


  • At least 5 years of engineering design experience with focus on schematic/PCB design and embedded software development.

  • Experience in an engineering leadership or project management role.

  • Practical/hands on experience with hand soldering and cable assembly for troubleshooting and prototype development/testing.

  • Comfortable with assembly of electro-mechanical components with related tooling.

  • Experience using Altium Designer CAD software.

  • Experience with revision control software (Git preferred).

  • Experience designing to meet compliance standards, such as CE, FCC and MIL-STD.

  • Experience with firmware development for microprocessors.
