Opportunity:

The Senior Specialist is responsible for DeVry University’s Title IX compliance program and Ombudsman services. The colleague will act as the University’s Deputy Title IX Coordinator and Investigator. Responsibilities include managing the organization’s Title IX compliance program and coordinating the University’s Title IX incident management program, including investigations and supportive measures. The position will work closely with Legal, Human Resources, Security, and institutional leaders.


The Ombudsman duties include investigating and responding to sensitive and complex student complaints that have been escalated to senior leaders or originating from third party agencies. Additional responsibilities include monitoring complaint activity for all locations and using risk/trend analysis to improve student service levels across the organization.




Responsibilities:



  • Maintains a comprehensive knowledge of regulatory requirements under Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972, similar state laws and related regulations and regulatory guidance.

  • Participates in the development and implementation of Title IX and student complaint related policies, procedures, and guidelines to drive consistency across the organization.

  • Develops and delivers Title IX training and communications across the organization, including employees, students and third parties.

  • Reviews inquiries and sends acknowledgement letters, investigates concerns, and provides written responses to complaints following policies.

  • Works with management level colleagues in all functional areas to ensure processes, procedures, internal and external reporting, materials and communications are developed in compliance with federal, state and internal standards and regulations.

  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

  • Represents Regulatory Affairs in meetings; provide regulatory guidance and recommendations for the organization's programs and initiatives.

  • Provides information and guidance to colleagues throughout the organization on regulatory requirements and internal policies.

  • Coordinates with other Regulatory Affairs functional units to continuously improve the service that is provided to all functional areas.

  • Assists management with escalated questions and projects as assigned; act as a delegate to the manager in their absence.

  • Work with other departments, including Audit Services and Legal, to resolve issues noted in regulatory examinations.

  • Draft responses to regulatory examinations and perform follow-up to ensure deficiencies are corrected.

  • Trains colleagues and external partners on compliance with relevant policies, procedures and regulatory requirements related to student complaints.

  • Completes other duties as assigned.



Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.

  • At least 6 years of experience in a federal/state regulated environment; experience in higher education regulatory compliance and Student Financial Assistance required.

  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, critical thinking, analytical, verbal and written communication skills.

  • Is a detail-oriented problem-solver.

  • Can demonstrate a consistently great work ethic in a high productivity environment

  • Can travel 10%.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel and internet applications.

  • Writing samples required.
