Allegheny College, a small selective national liberal arts college, invites applications for the position of Career Coach. The position is a full-time exempt position reporting to the Executive Director of Career Education. The Office of Career Education prepares students for meaningful lives by promoting self-development, career competency development, and the exploration of occupations through a community-wide ecosystem.


The Career Coach supports Allegheny College students with a focus on career competency development as they explore their unique interdisciplinary interests. The Career Coach provides both in-person and virtual coaching (some remote work accommodations can be discussed) on topics including career exploration, knowledge and skills development, application materials, interview techniques, and internship and job searches. Through building and maintaining relationships with a variety of students and stakeholders, the Career Coach works to understand the diversity of student perspectives, experiences and needs in order to create meaningful programs and initiatives meant to address barriers. It is imperative that the Career Coach build and maintain relationships with students and student support areas including the IDEAS Center, Student Accessibility and Support Services, Athletics, and other student life and student success departments. The Career Coach is responsible for departmental communications and offers support for alumni as needed.


The successful candidate will be familiar with student development, career development, recruiting practices, and effective ways of connecting with and advocating for marginalized student groups. This candidate will be skilled in fostering and developing mutually respectful relationships, be an effective communicator, and demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in their work. A Bachelor's degree from a four-year undergraduate program is required as is the direct work experience with college students.
