Position Purpose:

The purpose of this position is to conduct research on quantum engineering involving both experimental and theoretical work related to quantum computation, quantum simulation, quantum sensing, and artificial intelligence. The researcher will develop novel approaches to using optimal control techniques for the control of quantum systems and/or will study the origin of decoherence in superconducting qubits. While experimental quantum engineering expertise is preferable, it is encouraged that all those interested in quantum computation and quantum engineering apply as the field is becoming quite interdisciplinary. This position will provide the researcher with access to new career opportunities in the field of quantum computation and quantum engineering to help build the quantum hardware of tomorrow!


Description:

The field is growing rapidly and the demand for qualified quantum engineers is growing!


Specifically, the project involves experimental and theoretical work on superconducting circuits involving the use of cloud-based quantum processors and custom quantum hardware built in our lab. The focus will be on the application of quantum optimal control techniques and understanding sources of decoherence in state-of-the-art superconducting-qubit-based quantum hardware. Prof. Fitzpatrick has an extensive network across companies such as IBM, Google, Amazon, and academic institutions that can be utilized for job placement at the end of the postdoc.


Required Qualifications - Education and Yrs Exp:

PhD plus 1-2 year(s) of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience


Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:



  • Comprehensive knowledge of research methods, procedures, and techniques.

  • Working knowledge of quantum physics and/or quantum computing.

  • Coding skills.

  • Strong experimental physics or engineering background.

  • Experience conducting independent research.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience coding in Python preferred but can work with other programming languages.
