Reports To: Supervisor, Custodial Manager.

Summary: Keeps premises of Administrative buildings or other commercial or institutional buildings in clean and orderly condition by performing the following duties. Follow safety and security procedures. The custodian also ensures the duties are followed according to the direction of the Custodial Supervisor or Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Monitor areas in building. Monitor communication equipment and respond to requests made by designated personnel.
• Vacuum carpet and dust mop lobby and halls with approved equipment.
• Monitor boy's and girl's restrooms.
• Restock toilet areas as required with clean towels, toilet rolls, paper towelling, soaps and such auxiliary equipment.
• Floor will be mopped or carpet vacuumed (clean up all spills).
• Clean body fluid spills immediately.
• Monitor exterior plaza, entrance walkways and sidewalk areas. Perform light grounds keeping.
• Sweep and dust stairways.
• To be responsible for the safe and proper completion of each task ensuring that all Health and Safety and Environmental Health Regulations are fully observed and in particular that the requirement of "due diligence" is understood and complied with at all times.
• Maintain a (clean) entrance door area.
• The cleaning of all floors, walls, furniture, furnishings, fittings, glassware and replacement of bed linen as required.
• Emptying of waste-paper bins as necessary.
• Clean as required, all toilets, washbasins, corridor/hallway areas and all associated fixtures and fittings.

• Sweeps, dust mops, scrubs, polishes floors utilizing knowledge of cleaning materials such as soaps, powder, polishes, and synthetic floor finishes.
• Washes walls, windows, woodwork, light fixtures, and other building surfaces from scaffold or ladder utilizing proper cleaning methods and procedures.
• Dust, polish, arrange, and move furniture, equipment, and supplies.
• Cleans all rooms and spaces and replenishes supplies utilizing established procedures.
• Removes snow and ice from sidewalks and driveways utilizing shovels and snow removal equipment.
• Cleans and polishes brass and other metal surfaces.
• Maintains equipment and supplies
• Assists other employees in certain project and/or specialized maintenance tasks.
• Demonstrates knowledge of safe and effective work practices.
• Participates in training classes as required.
• Read and comprehend instructions and policies in order to carry out job duties.
• Operates and maintains the following machinery and equipment:
• General: mops, brooms, scrubbers, dusters, shovels, and rakes.
• Wet-dry pick up.
• Scrubbing and polishing machine.
• Small and commercial vacuums.
• Snow removal equipment.
• Lawn mowers and weed eaters.
• Maintains a good attendance record.

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
