As a professional member of the Center for Comparative Medicine and Research, serves in all aspects of veterinary care within the Center for Comparative Medicine & Research (CCMR) at Dartmouth College, The Geisel School of Medicine, the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, and the nearby Veterans Administration facility by performing professional activities associated with clinical, emergency, research, and regulatory support.

* D.V.M. or V.M.D. from an accredited veterinary medical college*Licensed to practice in the state of New Hampshire or able to become licensed within 6 months of hire*USDA accredited or able to become USDA accredited within 6 months of hire* Knowledge of compliance standards procedures relating to the care of animals in a research environment.* Good interpersonal and communication skills.* Excellent Surgical skills.* Ability to instruct others in the care and use of laboratory animals.* Knowledge of the hazards of exposure to zoonotic diseases, animal scratches and bites, carcinogenic materials, and radioisotopes.* Commitment to diversity and to serving the needs of a diverse community.
* Post-doctoral training or 2-3 years of experience in laboratory animal medicine, or the equivalent. ACLAM board certification or board eligible.

Performs regular clinical services in support of research activities. Conducts appropriate checks and observations to ensure that animals used in research and teaching are healthy. Ensures that institutional, IACUC, and federal regulatory requirements are met in all respects. Communicates with the Attending Veterinarian regarding animal health issues and communicates with Principal Investigators on clinical cases.

Initiates and directs the development and delivery of an educational program to facilitate compliance with the requirements of law and regulation. Instructs and serves as a group leader in orientations, laboratory continuing education, and special presentations. Advises and trains investigators on experimental models and designs; equipment and techniques. Anticipates potential problem areas associated with proposed approaches; advises on approaches that will eliminate or minimize problems, that will achieve specific objectives, or that will contribute to more productive research.
