Position Purpose:

The Language Teaching Fellow in English to Speakers of Other Languages is a Dartmouth College employee, directly supported and mentored by Dartmouth's Rassias Center and immersed at New England Innovation Academy (NEIA) with school roles and community and residential responsibilities at NEIA. The Fellow will teach English language programs remotely to students of English at NEIA's sister institution, Wahaha Bilingual School, in Hangzhou, China, and in person to English Language learners in the greater Marlborough community, with the support of students enrolled at NEIA working under the Fellow's guidance and mentorship. This is an academic year position from August, 2022 through June, 2023, located at the New England Innovation Academy in Marlborough, Massachusetts. Full-time residency at NEIA with dorm parent responsibilities is required.

  • Bachelor's degree.

  • Native or Near Native Fluency in Language of Hire (English)

  • Committed to understanding and working within the philosophy of NEIA, Dartmouth College, and the Rassias Center.

  • Desire to be trained in and / or familiarity with and/the Rassias Method® of language instruction.

  • Ability to learn Rassias Master Teacher Techniques and to incorporate them into lesson plans.

  • Experience mentoring/teaching middle or high school age youth (e.g. camp counseling, trip leading, tutoring, volunteering).

  • Ability and desire to work in an entrepreneurial academic environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with professionalism, discretion, sound judgment, equity, honesty, and personal accountability at all times.

  • Ability to efficiently and effectively manage the time of self and others.

  • Willingness and ability to live in a dorm on the same floor with students and to serve as a dorm parent performing all associated duties.

  • Proficiency or ability to develop proficiency in educational technology.

  • Demonstrated ability to create a welcoming and supportive community for diverse populations of learners.


Preferred Qualifications:

* Direct knowledge of the Rassias Method as a driller or drillee.* Special talent(s) that will benefit the NEIA community.

Student Advising - Serves as a dorm parent, performs associated duties including leading afternoon activities each season, chaperoning school events, and supporting an advisory group.

Classroom Teaching - Reporting to both Dartmouth College, Dartmouth/Rassias' Language and Culture Specialist (LCS) and NEIA/Curriculum, Instruction, and Innovation Coordinator, works with LCS and Lead Language Teachers at NEIA to incorporate Master Teacher Techniques into lesson plans; ensures quality control of Rassias Method and adherence to the Intellectual Property Agreement. Teaches English remotely to students at NEIA's sister school(s) in China and in person to adults in the greater Marlborough, MA area with the assistance of students enrolled at NEIA who will be working under your mentorship, guidance, and supervision.. Observes other NEIA staff in the classroom as a learning experience and is observed and mentored by the LCS.

Description:


Institutional Collaboration with NEIA - Works collaboratively and creatively with colleagues in various curricular areas and divisions, investing in the life of the school by participating in the advisory program, social and emotional learning, weekly department meetings, and multidisciplinary team meetings, anti-bias training, residential life, and in support of the student experience. May include online or in-person ESL instruction. Attends Rassias Center and NEIA faculty orientation in August.
