Required
• College Degree from recognized engineering, architectural, or construction management programs, or equivalent.
• Able to read blue prints by printed or online software
• Prepare proposals by analyzing blueprints, specifications, and related documents. Site visits may be necessary.
Essential Functions
• Identify and quantify cost factors, such as production time and raw material, equipment, and labor expenses
• Travel to job sites to gather information on materials needed, labor requirements, and other factors and to other contractor offices.
• Analyze blueprints, specifications, and technical documents to prepare estimates
• Collaborate with engineers, architects, owners, and contractors on estimates
• Evaluate the cost effectiveness/profitability of a project; before, during, and after completion
• Prepare estimates and assemble accurate and well-organized proposals in a timely manner for contractors, owners, and home office
Qualities
• Analytical skills - Accurately evaluating detailed specifications is crucial to a cost estimator’s success.
• Detail oriented - Cost estimators must pay attention to small details because these details may have a large impact on the overall cost of a job.
• Technical and Mathematical skills - Knowledge of industry processes, materials, and costs are vital to estimators. Mathematical skills are used on a daily basis.
• Time-management skills - Because cost estimators often work on fixed deadlines, they must plan their work in advance and work efficiently and accurately.
• Writing and Communication skills - Cost estimators must be able to write out detailed reports and estimates with accuracy. Exceptional communication skills are needed for conducting meetings with contractors, suppliers, and field workers.
Work Environment
• Employee must be available 6-7 days a week if necessary. Schedule depends on current volume of work to be completed.
• Some Travel is required for this job.
• This is not a remote position.
Education and Experience
• College degree in Construction Management or Engineering (or currently enrolled), OR equivalent.
• Experience as an estimator in the commercial construction field OR equivalent internships.
• Applicants must have a valid driver's license, be able to pass a pre-employment background check, an MVR check, and E-Verify Employment Verification screening.
