We are seeking a full-time Senior Engineering Manager for our headquarters in the greater Kansas City area. This role will directly supervise managers and lead technical contributors by setting the tone for the team environment and providing individualized coaching, training and mentoring.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions
Provide leadership and direct the activities of multiple systems and software engineering teams to meet business priorities and commitments
Direct engineering staff in the definition and development of products working collaboratively with other departments and outside partners
Identify gaps in product roadmaps and lead or direct associated new product definition based on identified needs
Lead or provide input into product development plans based on applicable Automotive OEMs, internal product and technology areas, and other market needs
Coordinate and participate in generating high-level system requirements and architecture, software requirements, and software and hardware architectures including product operation and interface specifications
Communicate project plans to staff, designate personnel who will be responsible for product development and launch, establish the scope of authority and division of responsibility for each project and review project status and reports, provide feedback and direction to the engineering staff as needed, and facilitate communication with top management and other departments
Lead RFQ technical responses including strategic positioning of technology roadmaps as they apply to the RFQ, establishment of cooperation partnerships to meet RFQ requirements
Partner with Garmin’s Engineering Business Development in selecting, leading, driving, and partnering with strategic suppliers and fostering relationships/collaborating with those suppliers, customers and partners to further Garmin’s interests in the market segment
Build healthy relationships and promote sharing of software, designs, architecture and systems designs across multiple teams, business units, and product platforms
Provide leadership to cross disciplined engineering managers and team leaders
Participate in recruiting activities including reviewing staffing requirements based on product plans, interview, hire, train, and evaluate performance for the team
Manage the facility and infrastructure at the local office as applicable
Must be able to travel up to 15%
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related technical field AND a minimum of 10 years product development experience with documented success in managing business level projects and technical human resources
Must possess a minimum of 10 years work experience in an automotive, technology, aviation, consumer products or related industry, working in a strategic capacity
Visionary driving both the technical teams and peer groups toward a common vision for the future of Automotive
Demonstrated experience, interpersonal and leadership skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams including Legal, Finance, Engineering, Sales and Marketing
Proficient computer skills including familiarity and previous experience with MS Office applications
Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication and listening skills
Solid financial acumen and effective business negotiation skills
Must be positive, detail oriented, organized, team oriented and a driven problem solver, multi-tasker, and self-starter with the ability to prioritize and lead in a fast paced, deadline-driven environment
Strong passion and proficient knowledge of Garmin, including its mission and values, product lines, customers, and product development methodology
Must possess a high level of initiative, energy and drive with a results-oriented track record and commitment to success with strong analytical skills, impeccable business judgment and decision-making abilities, exceptional time management and superior critical thinking skills
Proven ability to operate with discretion and protect highly confidential information

Demonstrated ability to effectively manage technical human resources across different time zones and geographies
Must possess demonstrated detailed knowledge and experience with high level language structure in C and/or C++
Detailed knowledge of systems design and software development methodology and its application to overall system design
Must possess broad technical knowledge and skills in various areas of engineering (Electrical, Software, Mechanical, Security, Safety)
Proficiency in Agile/SCRUM Methodology
Experience with ASPICE Model or other industry equivalent
Experience with ISO26262
