This role will identify and deploy opportunities and expand Kimberly-Clark’s leadership through adoption of sustainable alternatives to traditional plastics, and through reduction, reuse, and recycling efforts associated with the company’s products and solutions.

The incumbent will actively partner with internal teams, including Research & Engineering, Product Safety, Regulatory Affairs, Supply Chain and Brand Marketing, and will collaborate externally to catalyze systems change and innovation to further the circular economy and address stakeholder and customer/consumer expectations.  This requires a healthy command of leadership, influence, manage management and strategic planning skills.

Essential Accountabilities:

  • Provide leadership and subject matter expertise in the identification and analysis of trends, technologies, business models, processes and/or market expectations that will drive internal and external demand for eco-design and the application of circular economy and cradle-to-cradle principles, including post-consumer waste reduction, recovery, and recycling.

  • Develop and deploy global sustainability objectives for the company’s plastic footprint program.  Ensure that program initiatives are aligned with our enterprise sustainability goals and are integrated into specific annual business unit objectives.  Maintain and manage the roadmap and pipeline of initiatives required to deliver annual, 3-year and 2030 sustainability plastics footprint reduction objectives.

  • Deploy circular economy metrics and supporting data management/analytics platforms aligned with market and regulatory expectations, and in a manner that facilitates cross-functional collaboration.

  • Manage internal and external reporting obligations and ensure the highest fidelity in external marketing, communications and disclosures related to the plastics footprint program.

  • Drive supplier outreach and engagement to identify sustainable alternatives, circular solutions and eco-efficient design options.

  • Ensure key internal stakeholders are aware of new and/or anticipated customer or government regulatory requirements and understand the implications for business units, purchasing and product development.

  • Represent Kimberly-Clark and/or assume leadership roles on leading NGO, government or industry association advisory bodies that are shaping the transition to the Circular Economy.

  • Work cross-functionally, across a matrixed environment, using leadership, influence, and business acumen to evaluate risks and opportunities and propose appropriate courses of action, adhering to high ethical standards in the creation and execution of plastics footprint reduction initiatives.   Collaborate with internal functions including Research and Engineering, Supply Chain, Marketing, Government Relations and Legal to align on strategic direction and business plans to deliver goals.

  • Effectively manage multiple priorities, make decisions and drive solutions quickly and efficiently, working independently as well as within a variety of teams.

  • Foster relationships with external groups (governmental agencies, NGOs, industry groups, scientific organizations, collaboration platforms) in order to stay abreast of externalities impacting the business and to build strategic partnerships that enable the circular economy and associated leading practices.

Working Conditions:

  • Global travel up to 25% of the work time. Travel may also include business travels via aircrafts and motor vehicles to various locations.

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience in a circular economy area such as strategy, waste reduction, reuse, recycling, including technology and data/measurement.

  • 5+ years in product or program management/marketing/product eco-design/product environmental and social regulatory affairs or equivalent exposure in an NGO environment.
