The Dean of Undergraduate Admissions will develop, drive, and execute a vision and strategy that will take the university to its next level of enrollment success, joining a leadership team that is forward-looking, energetic, collaborative, and committed to students and their success. The Dean of Undergraduate Admissions reports to the Assistant Vice President for Enrollment Management and provides leadership to staff in the offices of Undergraduate Admissions and Precollege Programs.  Working collaboratively with the leadership in academic administration and in key administrative offices, the Dean of Undergraduate Admissions will develop and execute a creative and comprehensive recruitment strategy designed to meet the enrollment and financial goals of the University. A vital aspect of the role is planning and oversight of enrollment communications strategy and its execution, collaborating with directors and marketing experts on content strategy while managing associated workflows to design, develop and deploy robust and rich digital campaigns. This is a visible position interacting with senior administration, faculty, and staff and serving as the spokesperson for the University for prospective students and families, school counselors, and a variety of other constituents. Responsibilities include:

  • Build, drive and inspire a best-in-class Office of Undergraduate Admissions to achieve enrollment goals through the execution of data-informed recruitment of outstanding students and delivering an exemplary student and family-centric experience.

  • Create and maintain an office culture that promotes trust, communication, and collaboration within the department and with campus partners.

  • Provide staff professional development through mentorship, training, and career learnings and opportunities.   

  • Cultivate and deploy short and long-term organizational priorities and tactical goals through developing an admissions operations strategy roadmap that responds to the changing needs and requirements of the Institution’s enrollment strategy, including coordinated solutions, policies, and operating procedures.

  • Ensure effectiveness in all aspects of the recruitment funnel and pipeline, including the development of the prospect and inquiry pools, conversion and application processing, application review and yield activities, and work collaboratively with the Office of Financial Aid on award policy, processing, and outreach.

  • Develop and maintain best-in-practice admissions policies and procedures that support the university’s mission and strategic plan.

  • Develop a data-informed protocol for making recommendations related to setting goals, establishing projections and models, achieving priorities, and delivering bottom-line results.

  • Develop marketing and communication strategies that build the University’s brand and support the achievement of enrollment goals, including go-to-market strategies for new academic programs.

  • Produce and present comprehensive admission management reports for senior leadership, Board of Trustees, and other key stakeholders.

  • With the department leadership team, oversee the hiring, training, and evaluation of new employees.

  • Manage the Office of Undergraduate Admissions budget, exercising fiscal responsibility.

  • Represent and increase the Institution’s reputation by participating in professional conferences, events, industry associations, and boards.

  • Responsible for maintaining compliance and adherence to all regulations and policies for recruitment, admissions, and financial aid within higher education and ensuring the staff is trained and all processes, procedures, and policies are compliant.

  • In concert with the Assistant Vice President of Enrollment Management, collaborate with the Division of Development and Alumni Relations and academic units to create scholarship opportunities aligned to the strategic enrollment plan.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must have a Bachelor's degree; Master's degree preferred.

  • At least 10 years of experience in college admissions with demonstrated management experience in higher education or admissions and recruitment. Private 4-year non-profit college experience and international recruitment experience preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience building a best-in-class team that works collaboratively to achieve organizational goals and priorities.

  • Ability to manage, motivate and inspire staff to deliver excellence.

  • Proven management and leadership skills and experience working with professional and support staff to deploy and execute programs.

  • Demonstrated experience in conceptualizing, planning, and implementing admissions, recruitment, evaluation, and yield activities for domestic and international students.

  • Demonstrated ability to establish priorities, set deadlines, and meet goals.

  • Demonstrated success in developing and implementing recruitment and enrollment plans that meet institutional priorities.

  • Exceptional quantitative and data analysis skills and the ability to use data to make conclusions.

  • Experience with strategic scholarship awarding practices to support enrollment priorities.

  • Experience using student information systems, customer relationship management (CRM) systems (Slate preferred), and communication technologies to recruit and enroll students

  • Must be willing to travel and work weekend and evening hours as needed.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.

  • Must have exceptional ethical values and a clear understanding of best practices in the field of admissions.

  • Must have a valid driver's license.
