POSITION SUMMARY: The Estimating Engineer will report to the Chief Estimator. The Estimating Engineer takes direction from the Chief Estimator or Senior Estimator and supports estimate development. The Estimating Engineer will develop, track and maintain estimates for a variety of projects during Preconstruction. This position will evaluate design documents at various phases of design and review estimates to ensure the project is meeting budget targets set by the client.
PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Quantity take-offs including use of on-screen takeoff software and take-offs utilizing BIM models.
Inputting quantities and costs into estimating software and developing estimates.
Communicating with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain current pricing for various scopes of work.
Interpretation of construction drawings and specifications.
Working with architects and engineers to clarify any questions or discrepancies in the contract documents.
Tracking and communicating changes in estimates at various phase of the design process.
Identifying and developing value engineering and cost savings opportunities.
Performing constructability reviews on drawings and specifications.
Attending design review and coordination meetings.
Provide clear communication verbally, written and electronically

Constant mental alertness, accuracy, and attention to detail
Must be able to work independently, make quick and effective decisions, and follow through on all assignments to meet required schedule

Must be able to plan and organize work efficiently for maximum outcome
Must possess strong organizational and computer use skills and have an elevated level of competency to read/write/speak English, interpret construction related documentation and communicate with coworkers
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, Bachelor of Architecture, or an equivalent degree and/or equivalent work experience
Education background in materials and methods of construction
1 – 5 years construction experience
Specific experience in commercial, healthcare, industrial, water treatment and/or hi-tech types of projects
Experience in organizing technical data in a neat and accurate method; familiar with CSI specification system for construction
Ability to work closely with trade and craft people in a field work situation. Patience and professionalism are essential to being able to maintain a cooperative attitude through pressure situations
Skills in handling several work activities at once while frequently interrupted by phone calls and urgent questions on work in progress
Training in design and construction document reading, design specifications, survey theory and techniques
Highly developed visual observation and interpretation skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; must be able to work closely with project owners, architects, engineers, equipment manufacturers, vendors, and subcontractors
Must be a dedicated team player, self-starter, flexible and be able to work well with a variety of personalities and minimal instruction. Must be able to remain calm in high-pressure situations.
Must be able to physically access all areas and levels of construction site for work progress review.
Work schedule must be flexible to allow extended hours or off-shift work to accommodate changing construction schedule and sequences.
Proficient in Windows, Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, and Outlook) and Bluebeam
Experience with project management software such as Prolog, Procore, E-Builder, Microsoft Project, and Primavera Project Planner(P6)
Experience with design software such as AutoCAD, Revit and Navisworks
