Clinical Therapist at University of Oklahoma in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Job Description:

Provides professional counseling and evidence-based individual, family, and/or group therapy; completes evidence-based assessments in order to diagnose and appropriately treatment plan for children, adolescents, and their families; and complete safety planning as appropriate.

DUTIES:   



  • Therapy. Provides evidence-based individual, family, and/or group therapy to children, adolescents, and their families for mental health, behavioral issues, and developmental disabilities.


  • Evaluation. Performs diagnostic evaluations and evidence-based assessments of mental/behavioral health symptoms of patient to determine extent of therapy needed, method of therapy, etc.  Interprets the progress of patients.     


  • Treatment Planning. Plans the method of treatment for patients.  Modifies plan as needed.     


  • Report Preparation. Prepares various reports as needed to document progress, stating findings, and recommendations.  


  • Training. Trains or assists in the training of students, new therapists, interns, etc. as needed. 


  • Record Maintenance. Maintains patient records that include evaluation, treatment plan, therapy given, progress, etc.     


  • As Needed. Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.  

Education:  Master’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work (MSW) or related field

 

Experience: 24 months experience as a clinical therapist

 

Certifications/ Licenses:  CPR certification or to be completed within 6 months and License Eligible therapist in the State of Oklahoma  

 

Equivalent/ Substitution:  Will accept a Ph.D. in Psychology in lieu of a Master’s Degree and experience

 

Preferred:  Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Marital and Family Therapist (LMFT), or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) to provide individual, group, and/or family therapy.        

 

SKILLS:


  • Psychotherapy and consultation skills for children with behavior problems, psychological or behavioral health symptoms, or previous experiences of trauma

  • Psychological assessment experience with infants, children, and/or adolescents

  • Knowledge of supervision strategies and ethics involved with supervising trainees

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Demonstrates a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion

  • Knowledge of working directly with families from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds

  • Ability to effectively form connections and positive relationships with children/adolescents

  • Ability to negotiate, problem solve, and make decisions in order to make patients and families aware of the treatment

  • Ability to listen to the patient

  • Must have organization skills

  • Ability to communicate and collaborate with coworkers

Working Conditions:



  • Physical: Ability to engage in repetitive motion.May lift, carry or move up to 50 pounds. May need to climb, crouch, crawl or bend to check equipment.


  • Environmental: May have regular exposure to disagreeable conditions including odors and hazardous chemicals.
