We are seeking a Component Engineer 2 at our headquarters in the greater Kansas City area. In this role you will be supporting multiple departments through component library management: second source identification, communicating supplier/part status, and providing resources to improve component selection. Participate in ensuring that components used in Garmin products are high-quality, reliable, and cost-effective.
Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Independently releases and maintains complex component specification control drawings for assigned component parts
Identifies and promotes the use of high-quality, high-reliability, and cost-effective preferred components
Provides alternate or second-source component recommendations, upon request
Appropriately identifies and notifies stakeholders for basic and complex PCNs
Troubleshoots component failures in collaboration with Engineering, Purchasing, Quality Assurance, and Suppliers
Identifies and completes a small to moderately-sized project within assigned commodity, compliance, OEM, or manufacturing support
Understands and positively represents Garmin’s Mission Statement and Quality Policy and proactively works to improve the company’s image & culture.
Qualifications
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
Bachelor's Degree in Electronics Technology or related field AND a minimum of 3 years relevant experience performing similar duties OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
Thorough knowledge of Component Engineering
Demonstrates a full understanding of electrical component data sheets
Working knowledge of electrical component applications
Demonstrates understanding of PCN impacts on Garmin business
Experience in Design Of Experiments (DOE), statistical methods, quality standards and best practices
Familiarity with electronic manufacturing processes, particularly Surface Mount Technology (SMT)
Familiarity with various component manufacturing processes
Familiarity with component data collection processes
Proficient troubleshooting and "bench skills"
