We are seeking a full-time Technical Lead Systems Engineer for our Auto OEM team at our office in Novi, MI. In this role, you will be responsible for developing requirements and system architecture documentation for large, complex systems; support design and development activities including the definition of baseline scope.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions
Develop concepts for complex products and product families including identification of market need, technical and market feasibility analyses, system design, and product definition
Assure that complex products integrate cohesively and meet applicable requirements
Support successful conception, development, integration and delivery of non-connected and cellular connected devices from a systems requirements perspective
Lead DFMEA activities for assigned projects
Creates system level architecture documentation, perform design and development activities
Clearly communicates hardware and software requirements to development and verification teams
Research emerging technologies & components which have potential to provide a competitive advantage
Identify and carry out key experiments and/or simulations to mitigate areas of high potential technical risk
Collect information regarding product required functionality, manufacturing, installation, operating environment, and interfaces, and utilize the information to guide product design decisions
Maintain and communicate requirements, allocate requirements among subsystems, and assure compatibility among subsystems so that the product ultimately meets its final objectives
Participate in product design and development activities including electrical, software, or mechanical development
Discuss and negotiate technical requirements with customers and carriers
Provide significant contribution to design reviews across multiple product types
Mentor and provide guidance to less experienced systems engineers (Systems Engineer 1, 2, & 3)
Demonstrate broad understanding of Garmin’s business model, including operations, production, sales and marketing
Offer process improvement suggestions and authors new procedures as appropriate
Define general approaches and specific solutions to technical problems considered state of the art
Apply extensive technical expertise and analysis to all assigned projects
Complete broadly defined complex tasks including taking conceptual ideas and putting them to practice
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer, Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial or Software Engineering or related field AND a minimum of 9 years relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
Knowledge of the following: DOORS, JAMA, JIRA, EA, APIS-IQ, Functional Safety, ISO26262, ASPICE and AGILE methodology.
Demonstrated mastery of all criteria required for the Senior Systems Engineer
Demonstrated successful track record in managing exceedingly complex problems and providing successful solutions
Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Must be positive, detail oriented, organized, team oriented and a driven problem solver, multi-tasker, and self-starter with the ability to prioritize and lead in a fast paced, deadline-driven environment
Desired Qualifications
Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)
Previous work experience in a consumer electronics company
Previous experience working in an Automotive OEM space
