Who we are looking for

The Alternative Investments Risk Analyst position is part of the State Street Global Advisors Investment Risk Team. The primary focus of this group is to provide independent oversight to ensure appropriate levels of risk exist across our client’s portfolios. The Investment risk analyst will work with a small team of specialists to create, improve, and implement risk processes for Alternative Asset classes. The position will work hands-on with portfolio managers to measure, quantify, and communicate market risk exposures and any changes to the funds/accounts risk profiles. The risk analyst will provide risk oversight for institutional client portfolios consisting of private equity, real estate and hedge fund assets, covering a range of areas including risk measurement, reporting, stress testing, new transaction risk assessment and portfolio management. The position will also be responsible for creating and presenting key risk summaries to senior management on an ongoing basis. The candidate should possess excellent analytical and communication skills.

What you will be responsible for

As Investment Risk Analyst role requires:


  • The role requires a strong working knowledge of alternative investment strategies, gained from experience in institutional investment management, risk management and/or research organization.  


  • This position requires the ability to grasp complex concepts coupled with a general understanding of alternative asset classes, risk measurement and analytics, and risk management techniques.


  • The role involves interactions with SSGA functional groups globally, including investment management, operations, finance, and IT depending on the task at hand. 


  • The individual is responsible for suggesting methodologies for improving portfolio risk analytics, examining alternative investment risk issues and responding to ad-hoc requests from various business groups and senior management, and also undertake unsupervised research on areas of risk management.


  • The successful candidate will establish credibility through technical skill and stature in risk management, by building collaborative working relationships with investment professionals, and through creating a shared vision of the benefits of more risk-aware decision making.


  • The ideal candidate will have a solid analytical foundation and organizational skills, be motivated by a team environment, and have the ability to learn about new analytical applications and investment products.

Education & Preferred Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in business related field or equivalent experience. MBA, FRM and/or CFA preferred                                                                                                                     2-5 years of relevant industry experience (data analysis, risk management, risk models) with solid knowledge of alternative investment strategies preferred.


  • Working knowledge of financial assets via prior experience in investment management, risk management, consulting, and/or analytical systems


  • Ability to recognize broad economic trends, determine risk implications beyond the portfolio level, and communicate the resulting risks.


  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to work with all levels of personnel across the organization.


  • Experience with risk concepts and database tools are required
