Job Summary:
The Head Start Early Childhood Education Specialist is responsible for supporting all partner transitioning Head Start programs to achieve educational quality and positive child outcomes, through technical assistance, monitoring and on-site support, and other tasks as needed.  This position works closely with the Director of Early Learning Support and Transition team, and other key leadership staff to ensure that outcomes are achieved for children of all abilities.

Geography of this position is flexible as the position will require extensive travel to transitioning programs across the country as needed (up to 75% of time during initial start-up of transitioning programs).   

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Supports the Director of Early Learning Support and Transition (DELST) with interview process, hiring, and onboarding of all education staffing positions as identified in the partner’s organizational structure, including teaching staff, Center Directors, Early Learning/Disabilities Specialists, Model Support Specialist and Director of Education.

  • Assesses partner’s educational materials and equipment, determine needs and place orders to stock classrooms with necessary educational materials.

  • Ensures that the initial classroom setup is aligned with Acelero/Shine Early Learning and local regulatory standards.

  • Supports the administration of the structured program evaluation instruments such as Strategic Integration Start-Up System (SISS), Transition SASCIE and SASCIE to measure the fidelity of the early learning model. 

  • Works with DELST and local education leads when hired to plan and implement initial, differentiated, and sequential professional development for education staff.

  • Conducts quantitative and qualitative audit on the Performance-Based Assessment, Shine Insight, and Coaching system and establish a quality improvement plan if needed.

  • Conducts classroom visits, including informal walkthroughs, formal observations (using standardized or internal tools) and administration of classroom quality assessments (using standardized tools such as CLASS or ECERS).

  • Observes Professional Learning Communities Meetings and provide feedback to educational leadership to improve facilitation through the reflective cycle. 

  • Collaborates and coordinate with other service area leadership. 

  • Provides individualized follow-up support to the educational leadership level of development and plan cohorts- meetings/trainings for educational leadership with similar needs

  • Participates in assigned meetings, events and training as required. 

Requirements:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education (or related field) required. Master’s degree preferred.

  • Knowledge of child development programs and federal and state regulatory practices (Head Start Performance Standards).

  • Knowledge of principles, theories, practices, methods and techniques used in early childhood classroom instruction.

  • Expertise in education and experience in conducting structured classroom observations (ECERS, ELLCO, CLASS).

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in the early childhood field, including experience in coaching, supervision, program management and/or providing technical assistance.

  • Physical exam and background checks are required for this position.

  • Travel required locally or long-distance up to 75% of the time for work-related meetings and functions.
