Job Description and Responsibilities

The driver’s primary responsibility is operating a truck that transports cargo to and from specified destinations. Driver prepares, receives, and provides appropriate documentation for the delivery or pickup of goods while ensuring timely service. Driver should maintain contact with dispatcher to receive instructions about scheduled delivery or pickup while also logging travel and cargo according to federal and state regulations.

• Have a complete understanding of the State, Federal, and Local D.O.T. rules and regulations relating to driver hours, driver logs, weight restrictions, height restrictions, and tarp requirements




• Perform all pre-trip and post-trip inspections daily – reporting all discrepancies and/or potential unsafe conditions immediately




• Have the ability to handle all request and complaints made by suppliers and communicate any shortfalls, regardless of nature, to dispatch personnel and/or immediate supervisor




• Making sure all maintenance items are taken care of, i.e. greasing, tire pressure, etc., per maintenance policy




• Ensure equipment is kept clean and secured in a designated area




• Monitor over weight loads/unsafe conditions – contact dispatch personnel immediately of any infractions prior to leaving supplier site




• Have the ability to handle all requests and complaints made by the suppliers, communicating any shortfalls in service, regardless of nature to dispatch personnel and/or immediate supervisor




• Assist the scrap yard with roll-off runs as needed

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent




• Class A driver’s license




• 1-3 years of related experience




• Must have a “satisfactory” driving record




• Must have the ability to deal with the suppliers in a positive, courteous and respectful manner
