Job Description:


RESPONSIBILITIES: The Learning Commons is a large, high traffic space for student engagement, providing (not limited to) comprehensive learning support services, educational resource management, and college and career readiness programs. The Program Administrator (WCC) is responsible for the administration and management of all Learning Commons activities, including hiring staff, and ensuring continuity and alignment with similar services offered on the Valhalla campus.

This position will manage the development and implementation of the Yonkers Campus Learning Commons. As part of the Yonkers Campus leadership team, the incumbent will support the staff, faculty, and students by providing leadership in the implementation and ongoing activities associated with the Learning Commons, contributing to the achievement of the college's student success, recruitment, and retention goals.

This is a full time, 12 month position, which reports to the Division Coordinator (CC-EXT) of the Yonkers Campus. The incumbent also works in partnership and alignment with the Dean of Learning Resources

Examples of responsibilities include the following:


  • Oversee the day-to-day operations related to the Learning Commons.

  • Collaborate with appropriate departments (including the Office of Testing & Assessment, Library, Learning Resources, and Information Technologies & Academic Support) to coordinate the delivery of a variety of workshops designed to improve student success skills, such as time management, study skills, writing skills, etc. that impact overall student retention.

  • Provide orientations to students to introduce them to the facility, services, and resources. Create a focus on student engagement in all activities.

  • Research, prepare, schedule and present (examples) math, reading, writing, study skills workshops; continuing education courses (to improve the professional, academic, and personal growth of future students and community members), summer bridge programs, brush ups workshops, career and college readiness programs, and coordinate the High School Equivalency test prep program; all with measurable outcomes.

  • Provide instruction, research appointments, dedicated assignment guides, and MLA/APA expertise, among other services. Provide digital workshops to promote e-resources and technologies and have these resources available for faculty/student use.

  • Recruit, hire and train, supervise, and evaluate tutors for the Yonkers Campus as well as for three other centers, including conduct CRLA tutor training certification. Coordinate and develop a competent and effective staff of student mentors and tutors. Prepare tutor work schedules for four locations; prepare tutor payroll for the Yonkers Campus.

  • Follow college protocol to prepare and distribute reports to faculty reflecting student usage of the tutorials. Compare student success rate data to relevant college constituents including Deans and Department Chairs.

  • Generate reports as requested to meet institutional needs; maintain accurate records. Demonstrate sound financial management practices and assure the most effective use of the Learning Commons budget.

  • Work directly with faculty and academic administration, provide assessment of the Learning Commons, including data collection, monitoring, evaluating progress, and review operations on a periodic basis to optimize effectiveness.

  • Monitor and coordinate with the Department of Creative Communications and Academic Affairs to ensure the Learning Commons website and Brightspace pages are effective in conveying appropriate information and reaching and engaging students to participate in the Learning Commons activities.

  • Manage the Student Loan Service (at the Yonkers Campus) for college resources. Ensure that the Learning Commons is adequately stocked with necessary books, supplies and equipment.

  • As part of the Yonkers Campus leadership team, participate in college and local community events, committees (DEAC) in support of all recruitment and student success efforts. Contribute to the overall success of the Yonkers Campus by performing these duties in a manner consistent with the mission, goals, and stated values of the college and performing all other essential duties as assigned.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.




Requirements:


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor's Degree and three years of experience in the field of education, educational administration, or analyses of customer needs, program operations, marketing or customer services is required.

The Program Administrator (WCC) of the Learning Commons must have superior written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, excellent listening, organizational and proficient computer skills using the Microsoft Office suite of applications.

The Program Administrator (WCC) must also possess a student-centered teaching and advisement philosophy and demonstrate the ability to work well with students, faculty, and staff at all levels within a diverse, multi-cultural, collaborative, and creative environment.

This position requires a motivated leader with the ability to deliver a high level of interactive customer service, as well as develop and maintain collaborative relationships inside and outside of the college. The incumbent will have a record of prioritizing effectively, solving problems proactively, managing multiple projects simultaneously with high levels of accuracy, and achieving goals within or ahead of established time frames.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: A Masters' Degree in an academic field relevant to academic skills development, academic advisement, student support services or related field is strongly preferred. Knowledge of Peoplesoft, Brightspace, student support applications, and e-resources is also preferred.

SALARY & BENEFITS: The starting salary is $79,822 plus excellent benefits.


WORK SCHEDULE: The regular work hours are Monday - Thursday 11am - 7pm; Friday 9am-5pm (switching Fridays with Saturdays will be required according to program needs). Flexibility of hours may be required. Evening and weekend work may also be required.
