Position Overview

The Communications Internship is designed to provide on-the-job learning experiences for students studying a career in Public Relations or Communications. The intern will play an integral role in company events, with responsibilities that will significantly contribute to the success of company communication efforts.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:


  • Create marking material including social media ads, videos, infographics and designs for promotional items to support recruiting efforts

  • Assist in the writing, editing and production of internal newsletter

  • Assist contractor in the analytical review and implementation of SEO improvement opportunities for shellyco.com

  • Assist in management of company Google Business listings including updates to phone numbers, hours and photos on a regular basis.

  • Assist in management of the user database for our employee portal by adding permission for users, removing permission for terminated employees and resetting passwords or helping with technical issues as needed.

  • Assist in management of the user database for our employee app by adding permission for users, removing permission for terminated employees and helping with technical issues as needed.

  • Write and edit text message announcements for distribution through our company-wide texting program.

  • Monitor social media for engagement, customer service and recruiting opportunities, as well as engage in social media conversations on behalf of the organization.

  • Assist in posting social media updates and contributing ideas for content.

  • Assist in the production of company videos with focus on safety, recruiting, branding and internal messages.

  • Generate written communications, announcements, articles, flyers, etc. for all lines of business.

  • Must be able to manage time effectively, work independently, and use sound judgement to make communication decisions in a fast-paced environment.

  • Must have a high level of customer service for both internal and external customers.

  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.

  • Must be committed to providing and promoting a safe work environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain strong relationships with employees and customers.

  • Extended hours with possible night and/or weekend work as well as overnights.

  • The willingness to travel to other Shelly and CRH locations as needed.

  • A reliable method of transportation to and from work as well as other locations as needed.

  • Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times.

  • Report to the assigned job site ready to begin work at the designated start time.

  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Manual of Safety Practices and Procedures.

  • Strict adherence to Shelly Company policies and procedures as outlined in the Company Book of Policies.

  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education and Experience

Working towards a degree in Communications, Public Relations, or similar degree plan from an accredited college or university.

Language Skills:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively to customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
