Job Description:

Deliverables/Principal Results Expected:

The Medical Director will be responsible for the overall supervision of all medical/clinical aspects of the services delivered.  He/She will identify appropriate evidence-based or emerging best practices therapies to be employed by staff in delivering services. This position will have oversight of all quality management initiatives and ensure the coordination between the MH/SA services being delivered with primary physical healthcare providers.  He/She will consult with primary healthcare providers on the clinical aspects of the consumers being served and the implications for these consumers physical healthcare needs.  He/She will coordinate with medical staff of other providers such as state and inpatient facilities.  The Medical Director will provide supervision of all medical staff within the agency.


  • Responsible for the overall coordination of therapeutic programming.

  • Conduct focused and effective meetings

  • Responsible for ensuring the health and welfare of clients in the program are protected.

  • Responsible for maintaining a clean and attractive program                        

  • Responsible for all admissions, transfers, and discharges of clients in the program                      

  • Ability to create unity between executive management and program staff

  • Must relate well to supervisor

  • Seek and use feedback

  • Responsible for comprehensive program planning and implementation of that plan after approval by the CEO, Governing Board.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:                                       

No direct supervision of staff. The above duties reflect the general details considered necessary to describe the principle work functions of the job, and shall not be considered as a detailed description of all work requirements that may be in the position.   • Ability to evaluate and utilize data from statistical reports, budgets and descriptions of programs.

  • Must possess initiative and judgment capabilities to organize and plan activities, systematize procedures, promote favorable public relations and make decisions affecting service delivery to residents.

  • Must be flexible to adjust to changing conditions and the various details of the job. 

Education, Experience:

·        Five years of progressive experience in a mental health setting and must possess direct clinical training and work in the    areas of alcohol and drug abuse with adolescents.

·        Must possess 2 years of staff supervision and program operations experience, preferably within a residential setting.

·        Must possess the appropriate level of licensure or certification.

·        Must possess licensing/accreditation experience.
