Job Description:

The Diverse Communities Outreach Specialist provides outreach, information, assistance, referrals, translation and public education to older adults, adults with disabilities and their caregivers, with a focus on underserved populations including immigrants, individuals with limited English proficiency, persons of color, LGBTQA+, low-income and persons with disabilities.

RESPONSIBILITY LEVEL:

Full-time position located in the Kenosha County Aging & Disability Resource Center. This position provides outreach, information, assistance, referrals, translation and public education to older adults, adults with disabilities and their caregivers, with a focus on underserved populations including immigrants, individuals with limited English proficiency, persons of color, LGBTQA+, low-income and persons with disabilities. This position will also encourage the involvement of these individuals in programs that promote healthy living, reduce isolation, and encourage community involvement. Understand and abides by policies, procedures, and programs. Typically works on projects and tasks that span 1 day - 3 months.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

1. Assist Outreach Coordinator in all aspects of ADRC marketing and outreach activities: ads, announcements, articles, social media, senior/health fairs, presentations.

2. Help individuals access services by providing interpretation, support, and advocacy as needed.

3. Actively support ADRC outreach efforts to historically underserved persons including but not limited to immigrants, persons of color, LGBTQ+, low-income, and persons with disabilities.

4. Provide interpretation assistance when needed by ADRC staff helping Spanish speaking individuals.

5. Provide limited translation of ADRC announcements and marketing materials.

6. Help organize opportunities for older adults to participate in activities, classes, senior dining sites and other groups to reduce isolation and improve well-being.

7. Initiate regular visits with minority businesses, organizations and community leaders, with a particular focus on diverse communities. Spend a minimum of 10% of time networking with, businesses, groups and organizations, or facilitating ADRC classes, to help represent and improve services for the target populations.

8. Schedule and participate in community educational programs about services, health promotion, benefits, other related topics, and opportunities for individuals to meet and discuss issues important to them.

9. Maintain inventory and distribution data base of ADRC outreach event and marketing supplies.

10. Organize and replenish ADRC brochures and handouts, identify new locations in community and maintain outreach table in Commons area and County Building.

11. Maintain all correlating data bases.

12. Support Quality Assurance activities by participating in quality improvement projects, facilitating satisfaction surveys and focus groups and engagement with cultural respect/learning efforts

13. Attend relevant meetings and staff activities of the Aging & Disability Resource Center to receive up-to-date information about services of benefit to the target populations.

14. Attend relevant meetings of Goodwill of SE Wisconsin's Mission Services and foster the Goodwill Way's Guiding Principles.

15. Participate in relevant Goodwill staff activities, trainings and meetings.

16. Document activities as required by the ADRC's and Goodwill's reporting systems.

17. Project and Change Management: Effectively plans and manages own work to reliably complete routine job responsibilities and special assignments. Follows through on learning, skill building, and practice necessary to adapt to change.

18. Problem Solving: General supervision, with work regularly reviewed by manager or senior coworker. Uses technical skills and knowledge to manage day-to-day tasks.

19. Technical Skill: Practical, working knowledge of tasks, responsibilities, policies and procedures. Able to learn and apply new concepts.

20. Community Engagement: Serves as an ambassador for Goodwill in the wider community. Participates in volunteer opportunities as schedule and interest permit.

21. Responsible for completing other duties/responsibilities as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

1. Two years of college education or experience equivalency. Bachelor's degree in health, human services, marketing, communications or related field preferred; will consider equivalent experience and educational coursework.

2. Experience with health or social service programs.

3. Possession of a valid driver's license and access to an insured vehicle for use in the performance of the job functions.

4. Significant experience in working with older adults and adults with disabilities.

5. Knowledge of community resources.

6. Proficiency on Microsoft Office including Publisher, Power Point and Excel. Knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator a plus.

7. Able to speak, write, translate and interpret fluently in Spanish. Additional languages other than English considered a plus.

PHYSICAL/SENSORY DEMANDS:

Must speak clearly and hear well in order to facilitate meetings and conduct individual appointments. Must be able to move about office areas and meeting rooms. Vision standards required by Motor Vehicle Department to operate a vehicle. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
