Director Entrepreneurial Initiatives and Community Relations (Grant Funded) at HOUSTON COMMUNITY COLLEGE SYSTEM in Houston, Texas

Job Description:

We are currently seeking a Director Entrepreneurial Initiatives and Community Relations who will advance the institution’s proud tradition of excellence in academics, student life and community service.  This is a Grant Funded position.

 

SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Chief Entrepreneurial Initiative Officer, will direct and develop entrepreneurial initiatives at HCC.  Will develop partnerships with community partners, serve as Lead Faculty in the Goldman Sachs programs, lead the Teen Entrepreneur College, and help develop, promote and grow entrepreneurship in Houston.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.



  1. Direct the Teen Entrepreneur College (TEC) and expand to local independent school districts; 



  2. Serve as Lead Faculty in Goldman Sachs programs;



  3. Host entrepreneurial and innovative events, including maker fairs and hackathons;



  4. Promote entrepreneurial activities at HCC including Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Initiative, TEC, and Minority Business Development Agency;



  5. Collaborate with college personnel and administrative officers to gather interesting and compelling entrepreneurial stories to promote HCC; 



  6. Work collaboratively with and in alignment with all HCC Business programs, cluster deans and workforce deans;



  7. Collaborate with appropriate District Communications Office staff (HCC-TV, HCC Web, Print and eMedia, and Community Development) to develop consistent and compelling messaging using all HCC and commercial mediums available;



  8. Develop and maintain relationships with strategic community partners and liaison with Entrepreneurial Office;



  9. Interface with local chambers and districts to build relationships and promote HCC programs, offerings, and activities; and



  10. Monitor, research and track legislation which impacts entrepreneurial initiatives and small businesses.    


QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above.  The qualifications listed below are representative of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

 

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, human services, psychology, communication, business or related field from an accredited four-year college or university required.

 

Master’s degree preferred.

 

EXPERIENCE

Five (5) years’ experience in entrepreneurship, small business, community development, public relations, communications, public affairs or a similar field required. 

 

Experience with the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Program is preferred.

  2. Effective leadership skills which energize diverse work teams to respond to strategic business needs;



  3. Able to establish and maintain effective public relations in the business community;



  4. Able to research and analyze data to formulate successful projects, policies and plans;



  5. Able to administer multiple projects with varying deadlines, performance measures and reporting requirements;



  6. Demonstrated ability to develop strategic marketing and communication strategies;



  7. Demonstrated ability to analyze complex issues and communicate them effectively;



  8. Able to make high quality written and oral presentations to groups and stakeholders;



  9. Knowledge of general entrepreneurial and economic development principles and practices;



  10. Knowledge of conflict resolution and negotiation techniques;



  11. Knowledge of human resources/EEO policies, procedures and practices ;



  12. Knowledge of project management, program planning and performance measures;



  13. Able to attract, develop and retain community partnerships;



  14. Knowledge of sound  principles of budgeting, recordkeeping and financial reporting ;



  15. Knowledge of educational administration and leadership in community college education; and



  16. General computer proficiency including Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel.
