Position Overview

This role with provide comprehensive and pragmatic advice and counsel to business partners and Human Resources. The Labor & Employment Counsel is an experienced attorney, with the ability to counsel on a wide range of employment and labor law issues, including recruiting, hiring, employee relations, performance management, leaves of absence, workplace accommodations, wage and hour, internal investigations, pay practices, immigration, employee privacy, terminations, and diversity and inclusion.

About the Role – You Will:


  • Be a trusted partner to Human Resources to evaluate legal risks and provide subject matter knowledge and best practices across a broad range of employment issues.

  • Coordinate with Human Resources to help manage and advise on employee-related claims, concerns and investigations.

  • Draft, review and enforce employment-related agreements, templates and forms.

  • Monitor changes and updates to employment laws and advise on developments applicable to the company and its operations.

  • Support the development and implementation of scalable tools and processes for Human Resources and other teams as the company grows.

  • Manage and conduct training programs related to our employment compliance function across multiple jurisdictions.

  • Other projects as assigned primarily in compliance, risk management and litigation support functions

  • You will report to the VP, Litigation & Risk Management and collaborate with other team members located at our headquarters in Burlingame, CA and manufacturing facilities in Los Angeles, CA and Greenville, SC.

  • An attorney with an ability to efficiently process and prioritize multiple demands in parallel.

 

Your Experience Includes


  • Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA-accredited law school and a member in good standing of a state bar association.

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience at a law firm and/or in-house legal department, preferably for manufacturing companies in union and non-union environments.

  • Excellent analytical, negotiation, communication and drafting skills applicable to a wide variety of matters.

  • Excellent knowledge of federal and state labor and employment laws and regulations (ADA, ADEA, FMLA, FLSA, NLRA, etc.)

  • Experience managing and completing complex projects.

  • Demonstrated ability to plan, lead and complete complex, cross-functional projects.

  • Ability to make decisions within the scope of assigned authority.

  • California employment law experience, not required but a plus.

  • In-house legal work with a manufacturing company and/or technology company, not required but a plus.

  • Experience with organized labor and collective bargaining, not required but a plus.

  • International experience, not required but a plus.
