Job Summary

Promote a safe working environment for all employees through proper internal inspections, review, and written program management. Work to ensure that CooperVision adheres to, enforces, and abides by all Federal, State, and Local programs to the best of the company’s ability.  Minimize personal and business losses by implementing and enforcing all aspects of safety, health and environmental regulations and best practices. 

Essential Functions

•Assist with incident, accident, and near-miss investigations, including follow-up and corrective actions (CAPA).  

•Conducts routine equipment inspections including eyewash stations and AEDs. 

•Utilize EHS Software System, to document investigations, CAPA, and inspections. 

•Develop training materials including PowerPoint, video, and short “toolbox talk” style communications. 

•Assist with implementation and development of sustainability measures

•Conduct and document a facility ambient noise assessment under guidance of the Industrial Hygienist and EHS Specialist.

•Assist with Control of Hazardous Energy program update:

  oAssist with upload of current LO/TO programs into digital Brady Link360 program.

  oPhotograph and record all specific machinery and Lockout/Tagout (LO/TO) requirements.

  oIdentify machine disconnects and update electrical panel labeling.

  oUpdate site specific LO/TO written procedures as needed.

•Update Hazardous Communications Program for OSHA mandatory Global Harmonization System (GHS) Compliance.

  oUpdate Safety Data Sheets in online SDS management system.

  oCatalogue and archive older SDS.

•Attend and assist facilitating EHS Team meetings with associates monthly.  

  oDevelop PowerPoint materials to train EHS Team Members on various topics.

•Engage with employees on all levels of seniority to gather program feedback and promote a safe work environment.

  oParticipate in the evaluation of candidates for quarterly safety recognition program.

•Assist with maintaining environmental programs including RCRA Universal Waste, No Exposure Certification, and EPCRA/Tier II reporting. 

•Assist EHS Department with annual review of all written programs.  

•As business needs dictate, works extended or hours outside standard daytime business hours to complete daily department goals or tasks.

•Other duties may be assigned as needed to assist EHS Department with any training activities or special events.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:    

•LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must possess the ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English. Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Must be able to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Must also learn to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public 

•MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry is desired.  Should be able to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

•REASONING ABILITY: Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. 

•COMPUTER SKILLS: Competent in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint in Windows environment.

•PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Prolonged sitting in front of computer, hand/finger coordination. Frequent reaching with hands and arms. Occasionally required to stand and walk.  Occasionally required to lift up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities are required by this job to include close vision, color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

•Light industry to office environment.  

•The noise level in the work environment is moderate.

Experience:

•N/A

Education:    

•Current enrollment in an accredited college program in any of the following fields or related fields: Environmental Sustainability, Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Environmental engineering, or equivalent.
