100% FTE, day shift. Monday through Friday. One (1) in seven (7) weekends. Hours are based off the operation needs of the department.  We offer a competitive starting pay, relevant work experience will be considered. You will work at the UW Health Administrative Office Building in Madison, WI.

We are seeking a Registered Nurse to:


  • Advise clinicians regarding complete and accurate inpatient documentation.

  • Function as a liaison between clinicians and coders.

  • Work as an expert source for information regarding the impact of documentation on patient care, quality outcomes measures, risk of mortality/severity of illness indicators, and correct reimbursement.

  • Work under the direction of the Clinical Documentation Integrity Supervisor, conduct concurrent review of inpatient medical records-seeking clarification of documentation before the patient is discharged.

Education:

Minimum – Associate Degree in Registered Nursing.

Preferred – Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

Work Experience:

Minimum – Three (3) years nursing, case management, utilization review or quality resources experience in an acute care setting.

Preferred – Three (3) years Clinical Documentation Integrity experience highly desirable. Five (5) years nursing, case management, utilization review, or quality resources experience in an acute care setting.

Licenses and Certifications:

Minimum – Registration as a professional nurse in the State of Wisconsin.

Preferred – Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist or Certified Documentation Improvement Practitioner.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:


  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Knowledge of, but not limited to, current coding guidelines and methodologies, MS-DRG, APR-DRG, HCCs; ICD-10-CM/PCS coding guidelines and conventions.

  • Demonstrate extensive clinical knowledge necessary to meet performance standards in the position and provide clinical documentation guidance to peers and providers.

  • Strong organization and analytical thinking skills.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Demonstrates critical thinking skills, able to assess, evaluate, and teach.

  • Self-motivated and able to work independently without close supervision. Strong communication skills (interpersonal, verbal and written).

  • Ability to work independently and think creatively.

  • Must be able to work flexible hours which may include weekends as required to meet business needs.

  • Willingness to seek CCDS or CDIP certification.

  • Familiarity with the external reporting aspects of healthcare.

  • Familiarity with the business aspects of healthcare, including prospective payment systems

Physical Requirements:

Sedentary: Ability to lift up to 10 pounds maximum and occasionally lifting and/or carrying such articles as dockets, ledgers and small tools.  Although a sedentary job is defined as one, which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties.  Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and other sedentary criteria are met.
