Job DescriptionAbout This RoleOur Business Development team supports the overall strategy by targeting, evaluating, and executing external growth opportunities for Biogen via licensing, collaborations, equity investments and/or M&A transactions. This role supports the assessment of growth opportunities, partners with business teams, leads due diligence, and negotiates transactions. This is a high impact role working across many large functions.This role collaborates closely with External Innovation, Solutions, and Science teams across Pharma and Digital business units to evaluate external growth opportunities and execute a variety of transactions including but not limited to licensing and M&A. The individual will report to Senior Director, Business Development.What You'll Do* Consider broad Biogen corporate priorities and participate in strategy planning for financial investment trade-off decisions required for corporate growth.* Participate in one or more cross functional committees responsible for the initial triaging of externally generated licensing, collaboration, equity investments and/or M&A opportunities opportunities.* Lead negotiations in business transactions.* Work effectively with legal, finance and scientific teams and make business development proposals to senior management.* As a thought leader in the pharma, digital health and life sciences areas, stay abreast of market trends and build relationships with the startup and investment communityQualificationsRequired Skills5+ years in biotech, pharmaceutical, management consulting, or investment banking environments; corporate development or search & evaluation experience strongly preferredUnderstanding of and experience with Business Development and/or M&A process, including due diligence, valuation, financial, legal, and operational considerationsUndergraduate degree requiredTransactions/investment experience within the context of life sciences is a mustPreferred SkillsVC/investment banking/M&A experience highly preferredUndergraduate Degree preferably in scientific, medical, engineering, or businessMBA, J.D., Ph.D., or other graduate degree strongly preferred.Deep understanding of key drivers of value for transactions and how they can be measured and quantified; outstanding analytic and strategic skillsDemonstrated ability to build rapport with functional area leaders.Strong analytical skills required to provide sound inputs into financial evaluationsAbility to identify and prioritize risks across functional areas, weigh those appropriately with benefits of investment, and effectively frame business decisions for senior management.Ability to "think on your feet" both during negotiations with third parties and during internal discussions of risks and strategy.Strong presentation skills.Additional InformationWhy Biogen?Our mission to find therapies for neurological and rare diseases is a unique focus within our industry and this shared purpose is what connects us as a team.
