ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

Day to Day Activities:


  • Operates fire engines to respond to fire, crashes, and rescue calls; and uses mobile equipment, hand tools, and extinguishers to suppress aircraft, structural, forest, and automobile fires.

  • Responds to medical emergency needs of passengers and terminal visitors until expert medical care arrives.

  • Maintains awareness of security concerns on the airfield and reports concerns to Communications; checks airfield and reports debris, malfunctioning lights, and hazards.

  • Completes and maintains proper recordkeeping of fire and medical call reports.

  • Checks and services fire extinguishers and Automated External Defibrillators in airport buildings.

  • Performs fit testing for air packs and N-95 mask; performs service testing for SCBA and ladders; and tests and services fire hydrants.

  • Attends classes in firefighting, rescue, and emergency services techniques and methods; and trains with other departments to facilitate mutual aid response.

  • Cleans and maintains fire stations and adjacent grounds; and maintains supplies and materials on fire and rescue vehicles.

  • Tests and maintains all airport authority fire alarm systems.

  • Performs related work as required.

Hiring Range - Minimum $55,972 and Maximum to commensurate with experience 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education and Experience



  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent


  • Experience: At least 2 years of experience in volunteer or career firefighting and Driving and Operating Fire Apparatus and Pumps


  • Required Licenses or Certifications: NC Firefighter; NC EMT; NC Hazardous Material Level I; NC Driver Operator -Pumps; NC Emergency Vehicle Driver; NIMS 100, 200, 700, and 800

IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE

Knowledge of: 


  • Hazardous materials

  • OSHA guidelines

  • Principles, practices, procedures, and equipment used in aircraft and airport fire prevention / suppression and protection of life and property

  • Emergency medical techniques and procedures

  • Codes governing safety inspections of buildings, fuel trucks, and fuel farms

  • FAA regulations, airport ordinances, and aircraft structure and operation

  • Modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment
