Job DescriptionAbout This Role The Neuromuscular Diseases Research Unit is seeking an independent and motivated scientist to join our ALS-SMA Discovery team. Candidates should have a record of accomplishment in preclinical research and possess excellent collaboration skills.The appointee will join a team that is centered on developing new treatments for the neuromuscular disorders such as Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), using a broad range of therapeutic modalities.What You'll Do Lead preclinical and translational research using cell-based and animal models to support ALS and SMA therapeutic programsEstablish and characterize new ALS and SMA cell-based models, including iPSC derived models.Work collaboratively in cross-functional teams focused on early target discoveryDesign and execute target identification and validation effortsPrepare and deliver scientific presentations to inform project decisionsPrepare data packages and study reports supporting drug candidate advancement and/or publicationProvide subject matter expertise on cell-based models of neuromuscular disordersWho You AreYou are a creative and innovative scientist with a passion for developing life-saving therapies for neurodegenerative diseases. You have hands-on experience working with cell- and animal-based models of neurological disorders and thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.QualificationsEducation and Required Skills Ph.D. in Neuroscience or relevant scientific disciplineExtensive knowledge of neurodegeneration research and experience in cell-based and animal models of neurodegenerative diseasesKeen understanding of experimental design, underlying scientific principles, and the ability to rigorously analyze and interpret results.Proficiency in standard molecular biology, biochemical techniques, high throughput screeningDemonstrated ability to conduct research projects and publish in peer-reviewed journals independently and successfullyPreferred SkillsExperience with cell culture systems, including primary and iPSC-derived neuronal culturesOne year of postdoctoral or industry experience strongly preferredPrior experience in drug development, target identification and validation efforts, pharmacology studiesAdditional InformationWhy Biogen?
