POSITION PURPOSE:  

Responsible for planning, organizing, and overseeing all Transportation functions to ensure that customer service is performed safely, on time, and in accordance with specifications. Coordinates closely with customers and area personnel to obtain information, identify needs, and investigate and resolve problems. Understands all state DOT compliance and regulations. Seeks to continuously improve service and operating efficiencies and meets the proper regulatory requirements. Ensures that the Company's professional reputation is maintained, and that superior customer service is provided. Keeps management well informed of significant problems and area activities. Responsible for keeping routes, schedules, assigns, supervises, and appraises personnel and disciplined at a level where the work will be completed in an efficient manner

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES:


  • Manages the development and implementation of effective Transportation planning, budgeting, policies, and procedures

  • Executes established goals and ensures that Transportation policies support and complement Company strategies, mission, vision, and values

  • Ensures on-time delivery of products or services

  • Monitors, research, and implements solutions regarding issues related to damaged product, mis-shipped product, and missing product 

  • Assists in developing / adjusting of policies and procedures for the operations of transportation

  • Plans equipment and determines rental requirements and maintenance needs. Implements and maintains operation of computerized on-board and navigation systems

  • Works to develop and maintain productive business relations with internal and external customers 

  • Manages labor needs to ensure business needs are met in an efficient manner 

  • Provides leadership to direct reports while focusing on process improvements and creating a high-performance supervisory team 

  • Provides feedback and suggestions to improve employee performance. Works with employees to establish performance goals. Formulates and implements corrective actions as needed and ensures that all employees are treated fairly and consistently. Corrects employee problems promptly

  • Fosters positive employee relations, while ensuring Company vision and mission are active 

  • Manages performance of direct reports, ensuring accountability at all levels within dept

  • Partners with Human Resources to find and retain talent 

  • Ensures all company policies are followed and implements proper solutions when needed 

  • Perform duties in accordance with Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) and Safe Quality Food (SQF) policies and procedures, as appropriate for location 

  • Performs other duties as assigned 

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:


  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field 

  • Additional related facility management training preferred 

EXPERIENCE: 


  • Three (3) to Five (5) years of Transportation management experience in a complex, service-driven organization

  • Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years’ experiences in multiple stop dispatch operation

  • System Implementation Preferred Experience with Microsoft Office Applications: Word, Excel, and Power Point necessary

KNOWLEDGE: 


  • Must have strong knowledge of all warehouse procedures and functions 

  • Knowledge of transportation equipment and vehicle operations

  • Knowledge of budgeting, supply contracts, and transportation requirements 

SKILLS/ABILITIES: 


  • Excellent leadership abilities 

  • Able to organize, coordinate, and direct team activities 

  • Strong communication, problem-solving skills 

  • Ability to understand Accounting, HR, and Payroll activities/practices
