Job Summary

The Metal Finisher II sets up, operates and controls plating, etching, and/or other metal finishing equipment to coat metal objects to build up, protect, or decorate surfaces.

Essential Functions

• Reads work order to determine size and composition of object to be plated, etched or finished; type concentration and temperature of metal finish solution, check thickness and location of specified finishing material, and amount of electrical current and time required to complete metal finish process, if required.


• Places metal objects in mesh container and immerses objects in a series of chemical cleaning and rinsing baths.Immerses objects in metal finish solution.


• If covering surfaces by electro-deposition or electrolysis, moves controls on rectifier to adjust flow of current through plating solution from anode to cathode and to permit electro-deposition of metal on object.


• May tend equipment that covers, without electrolysis, the surfaces of objects with metal coatings by immersing them in the solute form of the coating metal or in materials which react with the object surface to form the metal coating.


• May control anodizing equipment to provide corrosion resistant surface to aluminum objects.


• Removes plated, etched or otherwise finished object from solution at periodic intervals and observes object to ensure conformance to specifications and completes necessary paperwork.


• Makes adjustments, such as with voltage and amperage, based on observation.

• High School Diploma or equivalent GED


• 2 years of related experience

Preferred

• Associate’s Degree


• 4 years of related experience
