Summary
The University of Houston – Downtown Social Work Program is seeking candidates for a Tenure Track Assistant Professor position. The successful candidate will teach a 3-4 course load over the two long semesters in a variety of formats; demonstrate a theory-based and community-engaged teaching philosophy; engage in a research agenda that supports the knowledge base of social work practice; and engage in service to the institution, profession, and community.
Job Description:
Teaches a 3-4 course load of undergraduate courses (three courses in one long semester and four courses in the other long semester)
Engages in meaningful research in the field of Social Work
Provides service to the department, university, college, community, and profession

Earned a Ph.D/DSW in Social Work or be ABD (must have completed the doctoral degree by the time the appointment begins) and an MSW from a Council of Social Work Education (CSWE)-accredited social work program
LMSW or LCSW (or is licensure-eligible) issued in the State of Texas
At least two (2) years of full-time post-MSW practice experience with systems of various sizes
Experience in teaching or demonstrated potential to teach at the college level
Experience in research and scholarship or demonstrated potential to conduct research and scholarship
Demonstrated commitment to service to the university, profession, or community
Demonstrated experience and/or commitment to working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and members of underrepresented groups
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated excellence in teaching or potential for excellence in teaching
Demonstrated excellence in research and scholarship or potential for excellence in research and scholarship
Experience with face-to-face, hybrid, and online instruction
Experience in developing and implementing service learning and experiential learning in curricular and co-curricular settings
Ability to teach generalist social work courses at all system levels (micro, mezzo, and macro)
Ability to articulate a clear and evolving research agenda that includes social work issues with marginalized populations
Knowledge of and experience working with an array of social service, public health, criminal justice, and/or healthcare agencies in the Greater Houston or other urban area
Experience with social work field practicum instruction or supervision
Available to teach some late afternoon and evening classes
