Director, Distribution Center Operations at Arhaus in Boston Heights, Ohio

Job Description:

The Director of DC Operations will have responsibility for managing the day to day operations of the Arhaus Ohio DC Facilities.  This consists of overseeing the leadership of approx. 1M sq. ft. and 350+ employees, ensuring efficient use of labor hours and productivity to support our customers’ needs, while simultaneously following a continuous quality improvement philosophy. The Director will be charged with leading an effective strategy, then leading the execution of an improved distribution standards that achieves Company goals of safety, quality, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction.  Both strategic and hands-on, this leader will be responsible for the distribution and delivery for Arhaus products; ensuring proper receipt of goods and materials from global partners, shipping to stores and distribution centers, to our 3PL providers for delivery to furnish our customer’s home. This role is located onsite at our Corporate Office in Boston Heights, Ohio. 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


Strategic



  • In partnership with key operations leadership, develop and implement the vision, business processes, and strategy to drive excellence in all day to day distribution center

  • Works with Sourcing, Planning, Transportation to ensure warehouse and production capacity is aligned with open orders, forecasted demand, and business development efforts.


Operational Effectiveness



  • Develop KPIs and conduct quantitative deep dives to drive improvements across the company; keep management apprised of performance metrics and present the appropriate data as needed through performance reports/executive summary reports.

  • Develops warehouse operations systems by determining product handling and storage requirements; developing, implementing, enforcing, and evaluating policies and procedures; developing processes for receiving product, equipment utilization, inventory management, and shipping.

  • Works with Sourcing, Planning, Transportation to ensure warehouse and production capacity is aligned with open orders, forecasted demand, and business development efforts.

  • Maintain global accountability for the movement of product through all phases of the distribution center to include movement of product to maximize product quality through efficient, accurate unloading and loading of Arhaus products to our clients. 


Financial Performance



  • Achieves financial objectives by preparing/adhering to annual budgets

  • Working with the SVP in the development of a capital and operational budget(s) for the department/facilities. On a monthly basis monitor, manage and control budget, analyze variances and take appropriate action and develop plans for productivity improvements and cost reductions.


Continuous Improvement



  • Develops and executes strategies to improve asset and people productivity and efficiency, including but limited to streamlining workflows and material movement, reducing unproductive time, and optimizing equipment utilization.

  • Develops warehouse operations design and system improvements by analyzing process work flow, manning and space requirements, and equipment layout; implementing changes.

  • Drive process improvement and cost reduction initiatives in support of our defined strategic objectives; Optimize distribution center performance and systems and enhance standard practices and procedures to improve customer service, safety, efficiency, accuracy, and product integrity; Promptly communicate and reconcile changes in plans and programs, conditions, requirements of marketplace, competitive activities, issues and accomplishments with the appropriate staff across the Company.


Leadership and Organizational Health



  • Recruit, hire, and develop the existing team as well as train new associates; mentor and support the continued growth and development of all team members while creating and providing the tools necessary to achieve individual and team success. Implement corrective action when necessary. 

  • Collaborate and align with the functional leadership teams to reinforce Arhaus culture, values and vision towards improved outcomes, customer service and cost effectiveness.

  • Build a strong partnership with internal customers through regular professional communication, problem solving and relationship building.  Promote collaboration, coordination, and teamwork across organizational boundaries.

  • Direct and lead various meetings including monthly performance review with DC teams and, and in weekly updates to our internal teams around our overall performance.  Ensure all business activities are done in accordance with applicable federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations meeting the highest quality standards.


May perform other additional duties and responsibilities as assigned

  • Experience in utilizing a Warehouse Management System (Manhattan Associates strongly preferred).

  • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines, both independently and collectively.

  • Exceptional organization, time management, customer service, project estimating and problem-solving skills. Ability to use time effectively and efficiently; can attend to a broader range of activities; handles multiple demands and competing priorities effectively.


Education, Experience and Other Qualifications:



  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or Operations Management or related field. 

  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience of distribution, warehouse, planning and production. Successful track record in Distribution, Logistics and Transportation Management within the Retail Industry/Furniture strongly desired.

  • Experience with operational excellence tools and systems, such as Lean, Six Sigma, 5S, etc. is strongly preferred.

  • Proficient in MS Word and Excel Applications and data analytics (BI). Prior experience with STORIS is preferred.  Excellent analytical and modeling skills with ability to leverage systems and tools to measure and analyze efficiencies and drive continuous improvement.

  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 30% to support new facility implementation and day to day operations

  • Successful track record of leading large scale inbound and outbound distribution processes, ability to develop and implement strategy and deliver sustainable improvement and results.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate, collaborate and influence cross-functionally; achieving results through formal channels and informal networks.

  • Budgetary and financial reporting experience is required with an understanding of how to analyze various metrics and report against those.

  • Must have working knowledge of OSHA, and EEOC regulatory agencies and applicable laws.

  • Valid Driver’s license

  • Dedicated to business and allow flexibility with work hours if necessary
