The Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center has an exciting opportunity for a Full-time Research Associate 3 to work on the UHealth Campus. The Research Associate 3 for the Sylvester Flow Cytometry Shared Resource (FCSR) will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of flow cytometers and cell sorters. Coordinate the proper use of computer workstations, assist with training and application of computer software. Interpret spectral properties of fluorescent dyes, with appropriate laser and detector selections, spectral overlap compensation and pulse processing for data acquisition, as well as culture plate cell deposition for cell sorting. Assist with instrument troubleshooting and resolution of problems, both technical and operational. Administrative duties, including responsibility for assistance with tracking instrument reservations and use, invoicing and collection of fees for services. Assist with ordering supplies.

  • Maintains daily operations and performs procedures related to new and on-going research projects.

  • Assists with preparing monthly invoices for flow cytometric services, ordering, purchasing, and maintenance of all required reagents and supplies for laboratory activities, and monitors and maintains inventory of supplies and stocks.

  • Assists with the maintenance of institutional biosafety and animal care protocols, laboratory safety records, and standard operating procedures.

  • Performs and assists other research staff with standard laboratory techniques.

  • Performs complex cell sorting and single cell flow-cloning.

  • Uses sophisticated computer software for data analysis, plus instrument reservation and billing.

  • Develops, adapts, and implements new laboratory procedures.

  • Records, organizes, and writes up experimental results for submission of manuscripts and for scientific presentations.

  • Prepares analytical reports relative to research data.

  • Keeps abreast of latest literature in the field and searches for references to technical problems, diagnoses and trouble-shoots problems and faults with instruments, computers, etc.

  • Maintains current knowledge of the methods and techniques related to the specific field of research.

  • Other duties as assigned by the FCSR director.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Microbiology, Biology or relevant field required

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience of which 2 years should include performing flow cytometry

  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.

  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.

  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.

  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
