Position Summary:

The University of Georgia, Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources ( is offering one full-time seasonal position working with bats for winter and spring 2020. The employee will be working with a graduate student studying the role of culverts in the spread of white-nose syndrome from currently infected areas to uninfected areas in the Piedmont and Coastal Plain of Georgia, as well as looking at how tri-colored bat body condition varies across their range in the WNS positive and negative areas. Activities will include, but are not limited to bridge/culvert surveys, measuring condition of bats captured and data entry. Housing and transportation will be provided while in the field, but selected applicants must provide their own transportation to the University of Georgia campus.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification in Position:

Applicants should have some college-level coursework in ecology, wildlife biology, or a related field. Applicants should be comfortable performing data entry and other computer-based work. Preference will be given to individuals that have current rabies pre-exposure prophylaxis and have experience with handling bats and ID techniques.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies :

Some experience using a GPS is preferred.

Physical Demands:

Work in hot, humid field conditions where encounters with snakes, biting insects, etc. are possible.
