The Morgridge College of Education (MCE) at the University of Denver is accepting applications for an Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice (DEIJ). MCE is a graduate professional school dedicated to creating positive change by unleashing the power of learning. The college infuses social justice, diversity, and inclusion across its advanced degrees in curriculum and instruction, counseling psychology, early childhood special education, education leadership and public policy, higher education, research methods and library information science, school counseling, school psychology, and teacher preparation. Position Summary

The University of Denver's Morgridge College of Education ( invites applications and nominations for an Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs and DEIJ. The Associate Dean will report to the Dean of MCE and assist in providing strategic leadership that contributes to the creation, stewardship, and implementation of evolving priorities and policies of the College. We seek a dynamic and visionary leader with prior experience supporting the research and teaching development of faculty along the continuum from Assistant to Full professors and who has prior experience supporting and enacting DEIJ with faculty, staff, and students. In their faculty affairs role, the Associate Dean, in collaboration with the Associate Dean of Academic and Student Affairs and Assistant Deans ("MCE Leaders"), will support and direct faculty growth, development, and initiatives in teaching, scholarship, research, and professional activities. In their diversity, equity, inclusion and justice role, the Associate Dean will provide leadership and focus to support MCE's commitment to inclusive excellence as articulated in MCE's college vision and core values and ongoing Inclusive Excellence efforts ( The Associate Dean will work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students and alumni to create, facilitate, and coordinate, diversity, equity, inclusion and justice initiatives. The Associate Dean will work to advance MCE's commitment to a culture that is welcoming, fosters a sense of belonging, and is respectful of all people.

Depending on the background of the candidate, the opportunity for appointment as a faculty member at the rank Associate or full Professor may be possible. If a current DU faculty member is chosen for this position, this individual will have the opportunity to retain their current series, rank, and tenure status. With the faculty appointment, the primary affiliation for employment status and benefits will be as a faculty. This is a twelve-month position.

Essential Functions

Faculty Affairs

  • Foster a climate of academic excellence, collaboration, and interdisciplinary initiatives through which faculty can thrive.

  • Support the teacher-scholar model and/or varying pedagogical practices by addressing the needs of faculty development and instructional support.

  • Provide and implement a vision for strengthening and expanding MCE's research enterprise, consistent with the aims of the Dean and the evolving strategic plan.

  • Develop research aspects of professional development and cultivate student engagement with faculty research.

  • Lead efforts in faculty mentoring and career development in collaboration with the Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs and the Faculty Grants Mentor

  • Support engaged scholarship that creates new knowledge and improves lives, organizations, and communities.

  • Engage in the recruitment of qualified faculty for MCE programs, including search committee orientation and representing the Dean's Office on search committees.

  • Meet regularly with Department Chairs, and center/institute directors, to discuss ongoing matters related to faculty development, growth, and success.

  • Oversee and lead sustainable assistant-level faculty onboarding and assistant and associate level mentoring programs, in coordination with the MCE Appointment Tenure and Promotion Committee and MCE Appointment and Promotion Committee.

  • Assist the Dean and MCE leaders in stewarding, recommending, and implementing polices pertinent to faculty (e.g., workload equity).

  • Coordinate with the Dean to ensure Department Chairs and faculty are trained on development and deployment of degree plans including the designation of appropriate faculty workloads.

  • Demonstrate a generative leadership philosophy through the creation and implementation of career advancement opportunities to cultivate future faculty leaders in the College.

  • Ensure the timely resolution of escalations and appeals for faculty personnel issues while maintaining the best interests of the common stakeholders within the University policy guidelines.

  • Support faculty in developing the skills necessary for enacting Inclusive Excellence.

  • Coordinate with the Dean and Human Resources to ensure all faculty and other direct reports understand job expectations, receive an annual written performance review, and the use of statement of goals.

  • Serve as a resource for faculty regarding the annual review and promotion/tenure process

  • Coordinate with Department Chairs to create a nomination process for national faculty awards

Diversity, Equity, inclusion, and Justice

  • Ensure in collaboration with the MCE Leaders and Department Chairs that diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice (DEIJ) is infused in MCE's policies and daily practices across the college.

  • Coordinate ongoing MCE Inclusive Excellence efforts (

  • Develop new initiatives related to the College's priority focus on DEIJ

  • Collaborate with MCE Leadership, faculty, and staff to advise the Inclusive Excellence Committee.

  • Represent MCE in university-wide committees and initiatives focused on DEIJ.

  • Lead the development and implementation of professional development programing focused on equity topics.

  • Prepare annual reports related to the MCE's progress on Inclusive Excellence efforts.

  • Support community engaged research, teaching, and service focusing on diversity, equity, inclusion and justice.

Administrative Leadership

  • Contribute to the overall success of the College and University through participation in the Dean's Leadership Team, College-Wide Leadership Team, strategic planning process, and stewardship of policies.

  • Work with the Dean, Associate Dean of Academic and Student Affairs and Assistant Deans to support a strong leadership team of Department Chairs through regular meetings and developmental opportunities.

  • Develop, build, and maintain relationships with internal partners such as the Office of Graduate Education, Office of Campus Life and Inclusive Excellence, the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs and MCE development and alumni office, and external partners such as industry representatives, advisory committee members, and community partners.

  • Provide Department Chairs and Program leadership to support the College's mission, vision, core values, evolving strategic plan and inclusive excellence.

  • Contribute to the discussions of the annual budget development process

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate from an accredited university in a discipline (or closely related field) offered through MCE.

  • Currently appointed at the Associate or Professor rank.

  • Demonstrated commitment to community-engaged research and practice.

  • Effective leadership in enhancing diversity, equity, inclusion and justice in teaching, research, and service.

  • Strong record of developing and sustaining collaborative partnerships in communities experiencing education and health disparities.

  • Demonstrated record in research and faculty mentoring.

  • Demonstrated effectiveness in administration and management.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member in a diverse, collaborative, and collegial environment with faculty, staff, students, and administrators.

  • Demonstrated performance in making sound, independent judgements.

  • Strong process management skills, analytical abilities, and attention to detail.

  • Excellent computer skills, including complete familiarity with MS Office suite.

Work Schedule

The regular operating hours for the University of Denver are 8:00 AM-4:30 PM, Monday - Friday.

Special Instructions

Salary Range

The Associate Dean administrative stipend is $30,000 in addition to the salary commensurate with the faculty rank. There are no teaching responsibilities with this position.

The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate's sex or any other protected status.
