The Department of Anesthesiology, Division of Pediatric Anesthesiology at the University of Colorado has an opening for a full-time (1.0FTE) Certified Advanced Practice Nurse or Certified Physician's Assistant to support the perioperative care of patients having surgery and procedures at Children's Hospital Colorado (CHCO). This position will work closely with attendings in the Division of Pediatric Anesthesiology to prepare both patients and peri-operative teams for a patient's upcoming surgery or procedure. This person will also be required to collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams across the hospital to ensure a smooth and safe experience for our patients and their family throughout the surgical journey.

Duties of the Instructor include, but are not limited to:
  • Promoting an environment of mutual respect among the interdisciplinary team, referring services, children, and families
  • Practicing holistically, considering patients' physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual needs
  • Providing and coordinating care for patients presenting for surgical procedures, through a collaborative practice with the Anesthesia, Pain Services and Surgical care team
  • Obtaining a health history, performing a physical examination, and establishing a plan of care for outpatients and inpatients at Children's Hospital Colorado presenting for pre-operative or post-operative care.
  • Evaluating patient physiological and behavioral responses to interventions for revision of management plans
  • Assessing family communication, adaptation, and coping skills to provide the best support for the family, including recognizing when the need for crisis or other interventions may be necessary
  • Ordering and adjusting medication and non-pharmacologic therapies.
  • Ordering and evaluating diagnostic studies, including lab and x-ray
  • Documenting in the medical record the chief complaint, history, physical findings, diagnosis, treatments, and progress
  • Initiating requests for consultation to other healthcare providers
  • Collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to maintain good communication patient management among families, primary care providers, and other referral services
  • Practicing in a fiscally responsible manner
  • Assisting with problem identification and data collection for research and/or quality improvement projects
  • Demonstrating appropriate knowledge and implementation of evidence-based clinical care to improve outcomes
  • Independently seeking opportunities to maintain and expand own clinical knowledge and skills and achieve professional development goals
  • Maintaining knowledge of normal and abnormal variations for all body systems and ability to incorporate assessment findings into management
  • Serving as a preceptor for Advanced Practice Provider students

  • Employs interventions and teaching strategies to promote health and a safe environment for patients and families

  • Provides leadership in care management to achieve optimal quality, cost-effective care
  • Demonstrates professionalism in all interactions with patients, families, and team members
  • Takes action to achieve goals identified during performance appraisal and peer review, resulting in changes in practice and role performance
  • Participates in lifelong learning that improves skills and competence in clinical practice/role performance
  • Serves as preceptor, role model and mentor
  • Contributes to the professional development opportunities of peers through sharing learnings
  • Contributes to departmental and hospital wide committees influencing APRN practice and policy


Supervision Received


This position reports directly to the Chief of Pediatric Anesthesiology and receives supervision from the Medical Director of Anesthesiology Pre-Operative Clinic and the Associate Director of Pain Services & Advanced Practice in the Division of Pediatric Anesthesiology.


Salary and Benefits:


The salary range (or hiring range) has been established at $99,996 - $136,635

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:



Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN)
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in Colorado
  • Graduate preparation in nursing (e.g., MS, ND, DNP)
  • Certified in Colorado or ability to be certified in Colorado as an advanced practice nurse for pediatric population (CNS, PNP, FNP) Acute Care Certification preferred


-OR-

  • Certified Physician's Assistant (PA-C)

  • Certification as Physician's Assistant
  • Experience managing pediatric patients


Preferred Qualifications:

    Certified PNP / FNP At least 2-years' experience as an advanced practice pediatric provider
