Job Summary


Reporting to the Associate Department Head of the Accounting Department, and working collaboratively with the school's branding and marketing function; the development function; and departmental faculty; the Communications, Events & Alumni Relations Coordinator (CEARC) plans, develops, promotes and manages strategic, industry-based, student and alumni engagement activities. Additionally the CEARC creates communications that promotes departmental and marketing initiatives aimed at increasing alumni and student involvement with the department and reinforces the department's reputation, while fostering lasting connections among its constituents.





Essential Functions



  • Interfaces regularly with the Department Chair, Associate Chair, and Master of Science in Accounting (MSA) Program Director to develop an overall departmental strategy for marketing, branding, publicity, and communications that complies with Isenberg branding and marketing. Helps to identify external relationship programming opportunities both on campus and in the industry to maximize public relations (PR) opportunities.

  • Writes and disseminates departmental communications including those to faculty, staff, alumni, students, and external constituents; including promotional publications and materials used in student orientations. Interfaces regularly with department leadership and Isenberg Marketing and Communications team to develop the departmental newsletter, overseeing content development, writing, layout & design, procurement of photos, printing, and mailing. Oversees the department website and plasma, and proactively develops, writes and submits stories for posting to both. Oversees department photography and videography needs for publicity and promotion of the department.

  • Plans, organizes, publicizes and produces strategic departmental events including the International Symposium Accounting Research conference, the Annual Awards and Scholarship Banquet, and the Annual Alumni event to enhance alumni involvement and generate gift revenues. In collaboration with Isenberg's Development office, chairs, manages, and promotes the undergraduate scholarship program implementing appropriate policies and procedures related to donor gifts, the awarding of scholarships to individual students (currently $450,000 in scholarships), and subsequent donor communications. Spearheads #UMassGives communications to accounting alumni.

  • Plans, organizes and holds regular meetings and events with individuals within the accounting industry including the department's young alumni council and the accounting advisory council to keep the department apprised of current industry trends; reinforce the department's status as a top accounting program; cultivate donors and donor revenues; and maintain industry relationships. Manages the Accounting Department Speaker Series logistics, communication, and promotion. Identifies and recruits notable alumni and faculty members as potential speakers at accounting department events.

  • Plans, organizes, and publicizes critical academic programs including the Careers in Accounting and Management Professions (CAMP) weekend, and the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program. Seeks, identifies, and arranges guest speakers and assists with their schedules.

  • Manages the finances and budgets for department programs, events, and marketing initiatives including the authorization of expenditures, financial forecasting and budgeting in concert with the Department Chair, Associate Chair, Director of Professional Programs and Associate Dean for Operations.

  • Responds to internal and external inquiries from recruiters, alumni, representatives from the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants (MSCPA) or the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) accounting professionals and others regarding program offerings.





Other Functions



  • Participates on Accounting department and school-based committees as needed.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.





Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)



  • Bachelor's degree with two (2) years of office experience.

  • Fundamental knowledge of print media production.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and respectfully with a variety of stakeholders with multiple interests and varying levels of authority to achieve organizational goals.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as conflict resolution skills.

  • Strong organizational skills and administrative aptitude with ability to manage several projects simultaneously.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with office productivity software applications and event management software.





Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)



  • Work experience in events, marketing, communications or business.

  • Experience and comfort with public speaking.

  • Experience in print media production.

  • Typical office environment.

  • Occasional travel is required.





Work Schedule



  • Monday - Friday, 37.50 hours with a willingness and ability to work evenings and weekends.

  • This position has the opportunity for a hybrid work schedule, which is defined by the University as an arrangement where an employee's work is regularly performed at a location other than the campus workspace for a portion of the week. As this position falls within the Professional Staff Union, it is subject to the terms and conditions of the Professional Staff Union collective bargaining agreement.
