Role Summary

This Senior Manager of Solutions CI role is a key partner to the leaders and cross-functional teams across the Solutions teams and businesses. Reporting to the Director of Competitive Intelligence, this leader will have a team of 2-3 direct reports who are collectively responsible for gathering industry data and competitor activities supporting the solutions, strategy and digital organizations. There will be additional matrix responsibilities including tracking specific competitors and trends in the healthcare space with particular focus on the most innovative and disruptive firms in the marketplace and laddering them up to a set of strategic assessments to provide timely, relevant, and actionable insights to our leadership.

This is a critical role as a "player/coach" who will align their work and that of their team to collectively serve as a consultative and strategic partner to the aforementioned businesses. The incumbent will have regular exposure to senior leadership across the Commercial, Solutions and Evernorth organizations and supporting functions including Product, Digital and Analytics, Distribution, Strategy and Business Development. They will assess what competitors have done and importantly anticipate "where they are going" and potential future scenarios, for both existing as well as emerging and disruptive competitors, to help inform our own strategic and tactical decisions.

As a leader and manager, this role will drive continuous improvements and growth in the Competitive Intelligence capabilities and rigor for the Solutions portfolio which includes significant quantitative and qualitative aspects of the role leveraging a vast array of both internal and external data and information sources.

The position is ideally based in Bloomfield CT or St. Louis though virtual/work-from-home is also feasible. Travel will be expected periodically for interactions with leaders and other offices around the country.

Responsibilities


  • Serve as a player/coach to develop and inspire a team tightly aligned with the needs of the Solutions leadership, including a robust understanding of organizational structures and aligned lines of business. Become the trusted partner & go-to resource for marketplace and competitive intelligence to advise our business leaders on implications to strategy, market positioning, and business decisions.

  • Work closely with Cigna's Solutions leadership as well as marketing, sales and distribution, digital/data and Cigna Ventures teams to gather, analyze and disseminate all relevant information concerning competitors' solutions and strategies, value propositions and go-to-market strategies.

  • Develop own and team's deep expertise including the external environment, our own and competitor products and strategies. Leverage this knowledge to develop timely, relevant, and actionable insights to support our product and go-to-market teams leaders to drive business growth.

  • Partner with solutions teams in their product development and new product launches including providing insights on competitor landscape.

  • Partner closely with the Solutions businesses and align CI team capacity and priorities with the needs of the business. Build and grown own and team's strong connections with leadership and stakeholder needs for positive feedback and outcomes.

  • Analyze competitors' products, capabilities and value propositions to identify areas of differentiation to aid in the development of effective competitive strategies and tactics. Identify critical competitive information to include in knowledge management tools shared across a variety of leaders and stakeholders.

  • Work with other CI teams across the enterprise to develop a holistic point of view and deliver analysis and recommendations to business leaders

  • Proactively identify key trends and developments in the industry to drive thought leadership and help business partners stay ahead of the curve

  • Develop a high performing team of competitive intelligence analysts to drive successful business results and feedback from senior leadership and key stakeholders. Importantly, mentor, develop and support team member's development, contributions, growth and succession planning.

Qualifications should include


  • Bachelor's Degree , MBA or Master's degree preferred

  • 10+ years of healthcare industry experience with 5+ years' experience in competitive intelligence, strategy/consulting and/or business analysis in healthcare or supplemental insurance industries.

  • Courage and curiosity to ask questions of senior leaders in a thoughtful manner.Capacity and drive to learn new material and quickly develop a recommendation or framework to support decision making.

  • Must exhibit strong desire to learn new areas of business, make an impact, engage with the team and drive business decisions with thoughtful and influential fact-based presentations.

  • Executive presence to be able to face off with and gain the confidence of business leaders

  • Ability to synthesize data, insights and recommendations into a well-structured and compelling executive presentation

  • Strong business acumen and strategic thinking skills, with an ability to extrapolate future trends from current information and "connect the dots" from multiple inputs

  • Knowledge of competitive intelligence/business intelligence practices

  • Accomplished relationship builder; the candidate must be able to build strong connections across multiple organizations without direct authority

  • Exceptionally strong communication and presentation skills; both formal and interpersonally

  • Moderate travel required (~10-20%)

If you will be working at home occasionally or permanently, the internet connection must be obtained through a cable broadband or fiber optic internet service provider with speeds of at least 10Mbps download/5Mbps upload.

For this position, we anticipate offering an annual salary of 116,200 - 193,600 USD / yearly, depending on relevant factors, including experience and geographic location.

This role is also anticipated to be eligible to participate in an annual bonus plan.
