The Clinical Analytics Team within Evernorth's Digital & Analytics (D&A) organization is expanding its deployment of analytics across the business as we fulfill our customer-centric mission to help the people we serve improve their health and well-being. The clinical Analytics team provides the ability to visualize, articulate, and solve complex and complicated business problems and identify opportunities for innovation for US based business lines including Medical Management (Care+), Behavioral Management, Pharmacy, Operations, Clinical programs and Pricing/Affordability. These businesses are aligned under our health improvement and retail strategies, all with the common goal of identifying what works best for our customers.

Our team supports the business by applying the following techniques to answer these key business questions:

  • Data mining and pattern recognition to answer "what happened?" and "where are the opportunities?"

  • Root cause statistical analyses to answer "why did this happen?"

  • Predictive modeling to answer "what will happen next?", "who is it likely to happen to?", and "when will it happen?"

  • Experimental design to test new solutions in order to answer "how can we get better?"

By partnering with the business lines, these analytic competencies enable efficient and effective decision making to allow us to constantly improve and create evidence-based customer-focus solutions. The department also has overall accountability for the methods and standards used to create actionable, proof-of-value statements for all the clients. As such, we set the standards for the methods that apply externally in reporting the value of Evernorth services to the client and ensure that results can be used to make material changes to the client's covered population.


The primary focus of this position is to provide strong analytics research support for Women's health initiatives as well as other evolving areas within Care+ around cardio-metabolic and inflammatory conditions. The ideal candidate is someone with strong data science and programming background, previous experience in the healthcare industry, statistical acumen, and the ability to effectively communicate data insights and recommendations to business stakeholders. He/she is expected to have fundamental understanding of different statistical modeling techniques, pilot development and implementation, and general health service research concepts. The selected candidate will interface with clinical, reporting, product development, operations, and marketing departments as appropriate.

The JOB RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Collaborate with business partners within clinical, operations and marketing to determine the best approach for testing the effectiveness of new/existing programs

  • Guide the development and analysis of a case management program, from proof of concept, data management to data analysis, interpretation, and presentation to internal and external stakeholders

  • Extraction and analysis of large healthcare claims data, conduct opportunity analysis including descriptive and multivariate statistics to identify patterns in the data

  • Presentation of results and recommendations to non-technical business partners and stakeholders to drive the decision-making process and support business operations for internal and external customers.

  • The ideal candidate for this role will be highly motivated, flexible and embrace change. In addition, the candidate will know evaluation research design techniques and their strengths and weaknesses. This role typically requires BS or MS in Biostatistics, Health Economics, Health Services Research, Epidemiology or equivalent training and mastery.

This position is with Evernorth, a new business within the Cigna Corporation.


  • Strong customer focus and management of client expectations

  • 3-5 years of experience in related analytics strongly preferred

  • Expert-level analytics providing content/professional leadership on complex assignments/projects; exercising considerable creativity, foresight, and judgment in conceiving, planning, and delivering initiatives; uses deep analytics knowledge and acumen to advise functional leaders; focuses on providing thought leadership within own discipline but works on broader projects, which require understanding of wider business

  • Use relevant technology/software to wrangle data, perform analytics, and visualize for consumption

  • Proficiency in performing statistical analysis in SAS/R/Python

  • Leadership competencies with the ability to collaborate with others and establish working relationships, communicate effectively across the organization and at different levels, think and act strategically, and influence key leaders

  • Strong verbal/written communication skills to work with various matrix partners, including but not limited to medical management, pricing, medical economics, business, marketing, and IT/IM.

  • Emerging track record of presentations / publications

Locations: Remote, Bloomfield CT, Raleigh NC, New York NY

For this position, we anticipate offering an annual salary of 83,200 - 138,600 USD / yearly, depending on relevant factors, including experience and geographic location.

This role is also anticipated to be eligible to participate in an annual bonus plan.
